I tried not to worry. Mark took ten years to build one machine. I was wrong. I woke up tied to a chair in Mark’s lab. A delivery guy had knocked me out.

“Sarah, we’ll go back. We’ll be together.”

Mark touched the time machine.

“Mark, you’re crazy! I’m not going back!” I struggled.

Ryan sat quietly.

“Mom, you’ll be my mom again.”

I watched Mark start the machine. He lit a fire in the lab. The machine glowed. I was sunk. Mark smiled. He touched the machine, but the light went out.

“What’s wrong? A malfunction?” He was worried.
