He touched my hair.

“Sarah, it’s a misunderstanding. I’m on your side.”

I loved this man. I told him about Mark. It was cold. I was afraid David would hate me.

“I know this sounds crazy, David…”

David hugged me. He cried.

“David, what’s wrong?”

I was shocked.

“Sarah, I didn’t know you went through this for us. I’m so sorry…”

David cried into my shoulder.

“It’s okay. We’re together now.”

I cried too. I hugged him. Next day, David came with me. Mark was there.

“Sarah, won’t you forgive us?” He was impatient.

“Leave my wife alone or I’ll call the cops.”

David pulled me behind him.

“Your wife? She’s been married to me for ten years! How long have you been married?”

Mark said. I clenched my fist.

David punched him. “Don’t you dare taint my wife!”

He beat Mark up. Ryan cried. Mark wiped the blood from his mouth and yelled.

“Sarah. I can bring you back just you wait.”

Then he left with Ryan. Mark didn’t come back for a month. But I heard his words. What if he builds another machine and takes me?

“Don’t worry. I’ll protect you.” David said.

“Mom, I’ll protect you!”

Lily puffed out her chest.

I smiled.
