The Wrong Bride - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Tiffany was waiting outside the courthouse. As soon as we walked out, she grabbed his arm.
“Don’t worry babe. I can do everything that Sarah does. I’ll sweet talk all those wives and get the deals back.”
I laughed, as if someone like Tiffany had that power! The day after I got my certificate, I sold all my shares in Mark’s company to his competitors. I couldn’t help but laugh when I thought of the look on his face when saw his competition sitting across from him.
I took the money and started my own business, hired all of Mark’s former employees, and made my move. Same industry, same resources, and I was able to do great. Mrs. Williams came to my business opening. She nodded in satisfaction at my new place.
“I don’t have any gifts for you, so I’ll give you the Williams deal. You were the one who was doing all the work, so I’m comfortable knowing that you are going to handle it.”
With Mrs. Williams’s help, all of Mark’s biggest clients moved their business over to me. It wasn’t long before my new company overshadowed Mark’s.
Mark called me, sounding exhausted, “I can’t believe you’d destroy me after we used to love each other! I didn’t think you would take all of my clients!”
I laughed. “Mr. Harrison, what ‘love‘ are you talking about? I was the one who got all of those clients, it makes sense that they would come with me. They’re not dumb, why would they stay with someone so emotionally unstable? Everyone knows about your love craze.”
Mark shouted, “Sarah! We were a couple, how can you hate me so much?”
“Hate you?! A cheating piece of garbage, why wouldn’t I hate you!”
I hung up. After that, I threw myself into my work. I didn’t realize they were going to try to make me their problem. My assistant rushed in, holding a phone.
“Ms. Parker, you need to see this. It was an article with pictures of me walking out of an OBGYN, with a man walking behind me. It was angled to make it look like he was putting his arm around me.
My assistant was frowning, “They are saying you got your business by being someone’s mistress. They posted all sorts of pictures of you, trying to smear your name.”
“Ms. Parker, are you going to clarify?”
I looked at the photos and understood. Someone was trying to make me look bad. And there was only one person who would do something like this.
I tossed the phone down, “I have nothing to hide.”
The scandal spread like wildfire. Even my parents in my hometown get wind of it.
My dad called angrily, “You got divorced and didn’t tell us, and now you are getting attacked online?! Do you even see us as your family?”
My nose stung, and my eyes filled with tears.
“Dad, I can handle it. When this is over, I’ll visit you at home.”
The next day, I went back to the OBGYN and I saw Tiffany. She saw me, and gave me an evil smile.
“Oh, hi, Sarah. What are you doing here? Are you pregnant? Well, that’s something, after all of the talk about how you couldn’t, and then bam, pregnant after the divorce!”
Mark, with a bag of medicine, came up behind her. His face was full of worry.
“You are pregnant with another man’s child?”
I looked at them coldly, “Does it matter to you? Mr. Harrison, keep your wife in check.”
Mark grabbed me.
“You would sell yourself like that for money? Do you have no shame?”
Tiffany, making sure that everyone could hear her, was loud, “Some women are just trashy,
getting pregnant by some random guy. Are you a mistress even before you’re divorced?”
I turned to her, “You think everyone is as shameless as you?”
Tiffany lifted her chin.
“I am Mrs. Harrison, and my child is legitimate. Unlike you, we have no idea where your child came from.”
“Why isn’t that random man here to support you today?”
“Is the ‘random‘ man referring to me, Mrs. Harrison?”
The man from the photos stepped out from behind her.
