Chapter 10

Selena’s POV

Zane’s face fell instantly. “What? Gone? Is that how vile you are? You aborted our child because I was trying to help Linda?” He asked incredulously.

I gave him a dirty look as I replied. “No, I wanted to abort, but the healer warned me. that it was probably going to be the last pregnancy I was going to ever have. But I had a miscarriage and lost the child.”

Zane’s mouth gaped open, “Miscarriage? Again? How?”

I glared at him venomously in reply, and he paled as he instantly recalled two nights ago.

He shook his head in denial. “No,” he said.

“Yes, Zane.”

“No! It was just a light shove! It wasn’t that hard!” He argued, looking around wildly. like he was trying to defend himself.

“Your LIGHT shove slammed me to the ground, and I had a miscarriage.” I declared, and the hall echoed with gasps of horror.

“No! I…I…It wasn’t my fault!” He protested, getting hysterical. “The baby must still be fine! It was a light shove.” He repeated, grabbing into my arm.

I yanked my arm out forcefully from his grip with a disgusted sneer on my face.

“The baby is gone, ask the head healer.”

Zane turned to the head healer with wild eyes filled with desperation, but she shook her head sadly. “I’m sorry, Alpha.” She said.

He ran a hand through his hair in frustration, but I wasn’t done.

“Do you remember that I called you that night, asking for help? but you blew me off?” I reminded him.

“I…I didn’t know.” He mumbled miserably.

Zane’s hands trembled as he realized what he had done. At that point, Linda rushed towards him, hoping for some attention.

“Zane, I’m feeling dizzy. I need to go home.” She cried, clutching her head with tears in her eyes.

At that moment, Zane snapped. Before anyone could react, he lifted his hand and slapped her hard. The slap echoed loudly through the hall, and Linda’s head snapped to the side from the force of the slap. She gasped, tears pouring down her face as she clutched her face, and stared up at Zane with shock and disbelief in her eyes.

“What is your problem?! Can’t you see I’m in the middle of something?! How is it my business if you’re feeling dizzy?! If you’re feeling dizzy, then go home!” He bellowed at her.

Everyone was shocked, including me. This was totally unexpected.

Linda was sobbing now. “But…I don’t understand…” she cried. “…I…thought this…I thought this was what you wanted.”

Zane gave her a deadly glare. “You thought this was what I wanted? You thought I wanted to lose my child, and my mate?”

Linda sobbed even harder. “You said that I was the one you wanted. Not Selena. Your said you were going to reject her and claim me. I’m carrying your child, for goodness‘ sake!”

The hall fell so silent that a pin drop sound could be heard. I wasn’t so surprised by her words. In fact, I expected it. Zane growled in fury at her words, and she recoiled.

“Why would you say something like that here?! I told you to tell everyone it was someone else’s child!” he roared, looking ready to pounce on her.

Linda flinched, “But you said-”

“I lied!” Zane snapped, “Did you really think I would want you, an omega, for anything more than sex? And now, because of you, I’ve lost everything!”

Linda’s face fell, and she sobbed even harder now. “But… you told me… you promised…You just rejected your mate right now!”

“Because I didn’t know she would accept the freaking rejection! She has nothing, and no one. I never expected her to accept the rejection!” He snapped in frustration.

His words hit Linda hard, and she sank to the floor in despair. “I… I‘ m pregnant, Zane. It’s your child!” she wailed.

Zane sneered icily, “I don’t care.”

“What?” She asked in horror.

“As far as I’m concerned, you and that thing in your belly don’t exist.” He barked.

“Also, I am Alpha Zane to you, not Zane.”

He added coldly.

“You can’t do this to me. You promised” Linda kept mumbling over and over.

As I stared at her, I felt no shred of sympathy. She deserved it. I had welcomed her, sheltered her, fed her, and this was how she repaid me.
