Chapter 59

The Shadow Pack’s wedding invitations were elegant, embossed with golden designs and Logan’s signature seal. Each Alpha across the region received one, including Alpha Adam of the Lotus Pack. When the pristine envelope landed on his desk, he hadn’t thought much of it- another event to skim over, another formality to ignore.

He opened it out of habit, scanning the finely printed words, but his eyes froze as he reached the name of the bride: Amelia.

The name struck him like a thunderbolt, and his breath hitched. Amelia? No, it can’t be her. But the surname matched, and his heart began to race. Amelia. The woman he had been searching for endlessly was set to marry the Alpha of the Shadow Pack. The paper trembled in his grip, his knuckles whitening as he read the invitation over and over, trying to make sense of it.

“She’s… She’s there?” he muttered to himself, disbelief and anger mixing in his tone. For weeks, he had scoured his territory, sent scouts to nearby packs, asked countless allies for information, but no one had any clue where Amelia had gone. And now, she had reappeared- engaged, no less–deep within another pack s territory.

The realization hit him like a brick wall. Amelia had been living her life without him, moving on while he’d been trapped in a cycle of regret and longing.

He slammed his fist against the desk, sending the invitation and several papers flying to the floor. His rage boiled over, and he grabbed the nearest object–a crystal decanter–and hurled it against the wall. The sharp shattering of glass echoed through the room as the amber liquid splattered across the floor.

The noise attracted Bridgette, who had been lingering nearby. She cautiously pushed open the door, her heels clicking against the wooden floor.

“Alpha? What’s going on?” she asked, her voice laced with concern. “Why are you so angry?”

Adam turned to face her, his eyes blazing with fury. For a moment, she froze under his glare, her usual confidence shrinking in the face of his unrestrained emotions.

“It’s none of your business, Bridgette, he snarled, his voice dripping with venom.

“Just leave me alone.”

Bridgette stepped forward, her eyes narrowing. “It is my business if you‘ re destroying things in the packhouse. I’ve been by your side, Alpha, trying to help you through-

“Help me?” Adam interrupted, his tone. sharp enough to cut. He took a menacing step toward her, forcing her to backpedal.

“You think you‘ re helping me by clinging to me like a leech? Get out!”

She flinched, but her pride wouldn’t let her back down entirely. “This is about her, isn’t it?” Bridgette hissed, her voice trembling with anger and jealousy.

“Amelia. It’s always about Amelia! Even when she’s not here, she still controls your every thought.”

Adam scoffed, the sound filled with bitterness. “You‘ll never understand,” he muttered, turning away from her. “Just go.”

Bridgette’s face twisted with pain and fury. She stared at his broad back, knowing that no matter what she did, no matter how much she tried, she could never replace Amelia in his heart. And as jealousy consumed her, Bridgette felt like her life. was slowly crumbling down. She was supposed to be the next Luna. That was what she had in mind, but ever since Amelia left, Alpha Adam had been treating her like she didn’t mean anything to him at all.

Feeling dismissed and humiliated, Bridgette stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her. The echo of her heels faded, leaving Adam alone with his chaotic emotions.

He sank into his chair, his head in his hands. The wedding invitation lay crumpled on the floor, a stark reminder of the woman he had let slip away. Memories of Amelia flooded his mind: her soft smile, the way she always tended to him when he was drunk, the quiet strength she carried. despite everything she endured. He had taken it all for granted.

“I loved her,” he whispered hoarsely, the truth finally escaping his lips. “I just didn’t realize it until it was too late.”

But now, she was with someone else- someone who clearly valued her in ways he hadn’t. The thought of her in another man’s arms, smiling at him the way she used to smile at Adam, was unbearable.

“I have to see her, he muttered, determination hardening his features. “I can’t let her go like this.”

Meanwhile, in another wing of the Lotus Packhouse, Bridgette paced her room, her emotions in turmoil. She clutched the edge of her vanity, her knuckles turning white.

“This isn’t fair,” she hissed to her reflection. “She left him. She’s the one who walked away. Why does she still haunt him?”

Her thoughts spiraled, growing darker with each passing second. She had done everything to get Adam’s attention, to make him see her as more than just a second choice. But no matter what she did, Amelia’s shadow loomed over her.
