Secrets, Riches, and Rescue - Chapter 8
Alexander’s POV
I was in of a conversation with John regarding my next–day schedule when my phone rang.
Since the amount of people that required attention already made me I the call with my coldest tone.
“Hello?” asked, skipping any pleasantries.
“Hello, Millie…” I heard voice on the other side.
“I had your number,” I replied shortly, ready to hang up.
I had no. of woman name Millie. It was probably another who bribed me in to get my private number.
I was going to push the call button when I heard the words that stopped me doing that.
“I am Twelve.” She said, waiting for my response.
“Give me a second,” I told her in a calmer tone, at the same time motioning to that it was an important call. I left the office, shooting me surprised glances, but I him.
“Hello, Twelve. How are you?” I cursed such a pathetic question.
I gave her number in case needed help. If she decided to it, she was not well.
It was I get my whole company board without breaking a but like a eats*it.
“If say Fourteen is more accurate nickname for me, would it be enough?” She asked, trying to sound cheerful.
Yeah, clearly in need. I let out breath before speaking again. I was man of after all.
“Do to meet me in hour?” I asked before could her call was a burden.
“On the bench?” Millie (I think that her name) asked after a short pause.
” Works me,” I said, maybe with too much enthusiasm.
“I will be there.” She whispered hung up.
“Fu*k, get a grip, Alex,” I told myself.
This probably hard for this girl, and I was happy like a child on a Christmas day.
I called John and him to cancel soon as he stepped into the office.
“Is everything okay?” He asked concern.
“Yeah, I need to take of something,” I replied dryly
“Business?” John pointed to my suit, and I almost facepalmed myself.
I forgot to change myself.
“No, do not worry,” I replied with chuckle.
I left company building and rushed to my apartment. I chose random clothes and favorite baseball cap. Now, I was ready for the meeting.
I arrived at the right ten minutes before time, but the girl was there. observed her for a moment and noticed that she looked nervous.
“Hi,” I wave her.
“Hi. Thanks for coming. Want something to drink?” I asked, to the cafeteria nearby, and she was in agreement.
We sat at one of tables, waiting for the waitress.
“What do you get you?” The young girl almost ran us and I gave her a signal order first.
“Black coffee, please.” I said politely.
I threw a wide smile looked at Millie and asked, “for you?” The waitress turned her attention to her.
“Same.”
When our drinks were served, I gave Millie some time to enjoy it.
“So, Fourteen, how can I help you?” asked, taking sip of coffee. It was awful.
She stayed quiet for a while, I did not rush her.
“Milicent, that is my name, but I hate it, call me Millie.” ” She looked at me.
“Nice to meet you. My name is Alexander but I can work with Alex,” said jokingly, as the most problematic part still us.
Millie offered me a small smile, and I had to admit she looked sweet. You could describe as natural beauty, with long, hair, a nose, and full lips.
She had big eyes and freckles that were just cute.
What is going on with me?
I did not plan this, and the longer I think about it, the more I think it was a mistake.
Millie gave an apologetic smile.
“Tell me what happened, and we will see if your call was important,” I said, hoping it sounded assuring.
“I need a place to stay until I find job.” She did not hit around the but. I liked it.
“What about your friend?” I asked, showing her I listened to the first time.
“I can’t stay here for a while, it is not the best solution,” Millie knitted my brows.
What kind of friend kicks out need? It looked like she noticed my expression shook head.
“It not what you think. My like a to me. It is her boyfriend who not want me there.
I do not want to cause her problems because of that.”
Now, I understood. Some guy tried to play tough.
“I to get myself a place to stay. I had savings, but they are gone. Someone transferred them–from my account.” She said and looked at me.
I frowned my brow, as this unbelievable, at least. Again, it looked she read my mind.
“My brain still tries to process that. That why this meeting was a bad idea. Sorry for wasting time.” She pulled bill from her pocket, ready to leave.
“Wait,” I stopped her immediately. She gave me a look.
“It sounds a crazy, I admit, I heard more incredible stories. Please sit back.”
Millie hesitated a while, but then she listened to my words.
“I offer you a place to stay. I do not know about the said reassuringly. I sure we will figure out.”
Millie looked at me without a word before smiling.
Thank you. She said quietly.
“Great, let me show your new home,” I told her, got up and paying our drinks.
