Chapter 5
“Yvaine! What did you post? Delete it now!” he began. “Where the hell are you? Come back and apologize to Gwyneth!”
I just forced my phone off. It’s almost funny. He never replied to my texts before. I used to think he was just too busy. Turns out, he saw everything–he just didn’t care enough to respond.
My mom, who I hadn’t seen in years, came to pick me up. She was wearing a red dress, looking stunning as always, but I could tell time had caught up to her.
She hugged me tight and said, “Oh, sweetie, you’ve been through a lot.”
Even though I’d run away years ago, I still kept in touch with her. She knew all about my drama with Gerard and had been warning me for ages it wouldn’t end well. I didn’t listen back then, but I do now.
On the way home, Mom updated me on the changes around the house. I already knew most of it, but I still listened closely. As soon as I turned my phone back on, it went crazy with notifications. I didn’t answer any of them. Just put it on silent.
“Spam calls,” I said to Mom when she raised an eyebrow.
She seemed to get it but didn’t say anything. With the wedding coming up, things were hectic. I followed Mom to try on wedding dresses. When I saw myself in the mirror, I barely recognized the person staring back.
Mom wiped her eyes and said, “Don’t worry, sweetie. Glenn’s a good guy.”
I nodded. Honestly, I didn’t care much. I mean, I’d dealt with worse. What I didn’t expect was for Glenn to show up. Seeing him in real life after only seeing his photos felt a little surreal.
He looked at me and smiled. “You look beautiful.”
The coldness in his demeanor melted a bit with that smile.
“Thanks.” I lowered my head and tugged at my dress, a little embarrassed. Luckily, Mom quickly stepped in to smooth things over.
“Well, since Glenn‘ s here, why not take a photo together as a keepsake?”
Glenn glanced at me for approval, and I nodded. Mom, clearly thrilled, snapped a picture of us. She loved blogging on Instagram, and she couldn’t wait to post the photos with a caption. [My very beautiful daughter!]
I didn’t expect her little post to blow up. Before I knew it, hashtags were trending.

Mom was so excited, sending me screenshots of the well–wishes in the comments.
[Let the asshole see this! He never deserved you!]
Honestly, I didn’t care anymore. He never loved me anyway. How could he hurt me? But I didn’t expect that he would actually send me a message.
I had already blocked him on my main account, but he found my alternate account. He sent me the picture of Glenn and me together.
Then, he called.
