Only Ten Years - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
“You gave so much to that company, are you really okay with this?”
Sarah had been one of my proteges. She was sad to see me go. I was sipping wine. Okay?
Ten years of love and hate, I’d even fantasized about the future.
But once faced with the “this or that” decision, it was a lose–lose situation. So, it’s better to walk away.
Sarah went on to complain about the office. Liam, to appease Ashley, had given her an executive position. Ashley was jealous and suspicious, she interrogated every single woman, even made ridiculous rules like no makeup or skirts at work.
Clients were also impacted and several deals fell through. I never would have expected that. It seemed that Liam was allowing this mess to happen. Maybe the Liam I knew was never the real one.
Or perhaps, his love for Ashley was an anomaly. But none of that is my concern anymore. The day I left town, it was raining. My mom was busy bonding with her new son and said a few words on the phone before hanging up.
Right before I boarded the plane, Liam’s best friend, Mark, called. We’d met a few times. Somehow, he’d heard about me leaving the country and said a few words on the phone before hanging up.

“Jane, you don’t have to run away. I’m getting the group together, Liam will be there too.”
“Let’s talk it out, let’s be friends.”
