Only Ten Years - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
Liam had changed, staring blankly out the window. In the last few days, Liam had been reliving all the moments he’d spent with Jane. They had been together for ten years.
Ten years, day in, day out. They had supported each other, become one. He’d lost himself in her, completely. It was more than physical, it was spiritual connection. After spending some time with Ashley, he understood.
He didn’t want someone docile. He wanted someone that would know his every thought, without him having to say it. He’d messed up. And he lost them. Where was he when that was all happening?
Oh, yeah, he was busy getting engaged to someone else. Liam’s chest felt like it was about to explode. He laid on the bed, barely getting by on IV fluids. Mark came to see him, and yelled, seeing the state he was in:
“Where was that before? Now you’re pretending to be heartbroken?”
Liam tried to get up, but he was too weak, so he glared back.
“She’s not dead! She’s alright! She and the baby are safe!”
If Liam wasn’t in such bad shape, Mark would have beaten him.
“Well go look for her, then! Don’t just lay here!”
And those words seemed to have done the trick. Liam got up, and started eating food like he was starving. His stomach was a mess, and he ended up throwing it all up. Ashley came to see Liam. She was annoyed at what happened, but Jane was dead, there was no point in fighting with a ghost.
She figured she could do it all. Liam was good–looking, rich, and she was actually falling for him. Maybe things would work out in the end. And as long as she had a baby, she’d be secure.
But as soon as she walked into the room, Liam started choking her.
“If it wasn’t for you, she wouldn’t have left with our baby!”
“How dare you show your face in front of me!”
“It’s your fault, it’s all your fault!”
He tightened his grip, and Ashley couldn’t even yell for help. Liam had lost it completely. If Mrs. Miller hadn’t arrived on time, who knows what would have happened.
Mr. Miller was furious and sent Liam to therapy. While recovering, Liam planned his escape. And one day, when the staff was changing shifts, he took off, running to the woman he loved. And he spent years searching the mountains for them.
