Only Ten Years - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
In the hospital, Liam had bandages everywhere. His assistant nervously stood nearby, giving him an update. Ever since his disastrous engagement party, Liam had become even more erratic, his temper unbearable. The whole office was working overtime, trying to track Jane’s every move.
“Ms. Jiang has… disappeared.”
“Avalanche, buried… not…”
Liam’s heart stopped, his eyes unfocused. Before his assistant could finish, Liam threw a cup against the wall.
“Bullshit! Get out!”
He went mad, ignoring his broken ribs, and went to investigate himself. The response was still the same. She was gone. News channels were reporting about a major avalanche in Western Europe.
“She’s alright.” Liam said, shaking his head. “She’s too smart to get herself killed. She must be hiding somewhere.”
He was already preparing his private jet to go to Europe, and bring her home. But he was intercepted on his way out of the hospital, and forcefully brought back to his room. Mrs. Miller had to tie him to the bed and sedate him.
She’d never seen her son so deranged. Liam had brought that girl home once, but that girl didn’t come from a good background, had too many issues and heavy baggage. Mrs. Miller had seen plenty of girls like that in her life, and didn’t want her son to go down that path.
“Mom, please let me go to her.”
Liam pleaded, pale and weak on the bed. She gave in, as long as he rested, she’d help him find her. The Millers used every single contact they had, but nothing, only a journal and a pregnancy report. Jane was three months pregnant.
Liam’s eyes burned as he opened her journal.
Liam Miller:
You once said that lovers who see the northern Lights are destined to meet again. Sadly, we didn’t get to see them together, and now we’re separated.
I brought the baby to see it, the lights are beautiful. If you were here, you would have been amazed by the magic of nature.
Oh, and I’m pregnant. Even though you were careful, this life still appeared, a sign that we’re connected somehow?
I wanted to go back home and tell you about the baby. I wanted to use it to keep you close, as evil as it sounds.
The news is saying you’re getting married to Ashley, so I canceled my ticket. Everything I experience, even a regular cloud, I wanted to share it with you.
Before, I would never allow myself to think this. I knew our differences, that’s why I never stopped pushing, so I could be worthy of you. The snow is taking us now, me and my baby might not make it out.
I guess we were never meant to be.
Liam sobbed, tears falling onto the page.
The last entry was from February 20th, their ten year anniversary. The last line of her journal was:
“Liam, I wish you happiness with your new
wife, and I hope you have a son soon.”
