Once Upon a Time I Loved You - Chapter 8
Chapter 8
The explosive question shocked David, Clive, and Grace.
Grace covered her mouth and giggled. She even shot Clive a look and nodded, as though she was saying, “There’s something between them!”
Clive, who picked up the hint, flashed a knowing smile at everyone. Caught by surprise, David struggled to comprehend the meaning behind Kathleen’s question.
Kathleen explained, “The front passenger seat is usually reserved for your special person. If you have a girlfriend, I will not take the front seat. I can squeeze into the back of the car with Mr. and Mrs. Atwood.”
David quickly waved at her. “I don’t have a girlfriend. Please get in.”
Kathleen finally hopped into the car. Once they set off, Grace gently reminded Kathleen, ” Kathy, just be yourself around David. You two are not strangers, are you?”
Kathleen replied politely, “We’re both adults. We need to respect each other’s boundaries.”
That was an unforgettable lesson that Nathan imparted to her.
Smiling, Grace remarked to Clive, “Kathy is such a well–mannered woman. She’s a great girl.”
Clive nodded in agreement. “Kathy’s brother is really good to her. He raised her well. I couldn’t believe he was a young man at first. Isn’t he great at raising kids?”
Grace retorted, “You make it sound like Nathan is our age. He’s a young man. Kathy, if my memory serves me correctly, he’s five years older than you, isn’t he?”
“Yeah.”
“So, that makes him in his early 30s. Does he have a girlfriend?”
Clive hurriedly pulled at Grace’s arm. “You’re really into matchmaking, aren’t you? Nathan is not Kathy. His marriage arrangement is a very serious matter.”
Nodding, Grace chirped, “Right. With Nathan’s social status, he’s fated to marry the daughter of a business magnate or at least a young lady from an esteemed family.”
“Nathan has very strict preferences too. We should stay out of his personal life.”
Suddenly, Kathleen piped up, “I appreciate it, Mrs. Atwood, but… Nathan has a girlfriend.”
Clive and Grace looked shocked. “When did that happen? Why haven’t you mentioned it to us?
She put on a wry smile. It was a delicate subject matter. She couldn’t possibly tell them that she fled abroad because of Kelsey.
Anyway, Kelsey was no longer just Nathan’s girlfriend. She had married Nathan on the day Kathleen took off for Eldoria. Now, Kelsey was officially Mrs. Meyer.
“I’m a grown–up now. We have our own lives, and we rarely meet up.” Kathleen implied that she was no longer close to Nathan.
Worried, Grace inquired, “Kathy, did you decide to leave for abroad because his girlfriend doesn’t like you?”
“What are you talking about?” Clive quickly stopped Grace from talking. “Kathy is abroad to expand her career prospects.”
Inhaling deeply, Kathleen nodded. “Mr. Atwood’s right.”
Since Kathleen had just landed in Milsworth, she would crash at the Atwoods‘ place for the time being as she hadn’t found a rental.
Grace had gotten the guest room ready for Kathleen. Kathleen lay in the plush bed and gazed at the moon in the night sky.
It all felt surreal.
She had decided to bid farewell to Nathan Meyer and start a new life in Milsworth. In the nicely decorated bedroom of the newlyweds, Kelsey stood there meekly. Kathleen was missing.
Halfway through the wedding, Nathan ditched her alone on stage when he realized Kathleen had disappeared. Leading a group of men, he set off to look for Kathleen.
Feeling aggrieved, Kelsey waited for Nathan at home. When he finally came home, she cried and wailed pitifully, only to be treated with disgust.
Nathan scowled at her. “Stay away from me!”
Kelsey gritted her teeth in resentment. How she wished she could beat Kathleen up.
She thought, “Kathleen must have gone missing on purpose! Why did she have to make trouble at my wedding? She wanted to ruin my big day!”
She cautiously approached Nathan and leaned in his arms. “Nate, you were busy the whole day. Let’s rest now.”
While speaking, she extended a silent invitation, unfastening her coat button to reveal the pink lace lingerie underneath.
