Once Upon a Time I Loved You - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Taken aback, Heather gasped, “Kathy, if you want to be charitable, we can donate money! Why did you give out all your clothes? What are you going to wear in winter?”
Staring at Nathan, Kathleen chuckled. “Nathan, you said you would compensate me for the damages done by Kelsey. I don’t want my old clothes anymore. Can I use your money to buy some new clothes?”
Nathan studied her for a while. Finally, he nodded. “Fine. How much do you need? I’ll send you the money now.”
Kathleen raised a finger.
“10,000 dollars? Not a problem.”
“No.”
“100,000 dollars?”
Kelsey grew nervous. “How are a few pieces of damaged clothing worth 100,000 dollars?”
Kathleen sneered at Kelsey. Then, she announced, “It’s one dollar.”
Nathan had bought the clothes she just donated to the charity; he forced it upon her. Now that she had decided to leave, she didn’t want to bring along the stuff he bought for her, not to mention a cent of his money.
After all, didn’t Nathan remind her that she was merely an outsider in the Meyer residence? She thought, “Pay me a dollar, and we’re even. 20 years of relationship will go down the drain.
Nathan looked impatient. “What are you getting at, Kathleen?”
“Are you paying me or not? Pay up or leave. Either way, I don’t care.
After a short silence, he transferred the one dollar to her bank account. “I’ve kept my promise and compensated you. Do not give Kelsey attitude over this incident anymore.”
Kathleen smiled at the extra one dollar in her bank account. “Don’t worry. I will never do that again.”
“Oh, and you must be our wedding photographer. It’s Kelsey’s wish. You must be there.”
She gave it some consideration. Her flight was at night–their wedding night. She nodded. ” Okay.”
In the days before the wedding, Kathleen stayed away from the Meyer residence. She traveled to the countryside, where she took a new series of bird photography and sent it to Clive.
Clive was beyond excited when he received the new photographs, so he video–called her. Kathleen, your composition and color management have improved! We have a few magazines here interested in offering you a role. Why don’t you meet with them when you’re here? We’ll make a pick among them.”
She was elated to be acknowledged. “Of course. Thank you, Mr. Atwood.”
“By the way, have you told Nathan about working in Eldoria? Has he agreed to it?”
Kathleen smiled. “He would like me to work abroad too.”
“Oh, that’s great. You won’t have any more worries. I’m surprised, though. I thought it would be hard to convince him…”
Kathleen asked for Clive’s address and mailed her photography equipment to him. He would keep them until she arrived in Eldoria.
On the day of Nathan and Kelsey’s wedding, Kathleen requested to use the wedding planning company’s camera. At the wedding, Kelsey looked triumphant, especially during the photos, having finally achieved her dream of marrying into wealth.
Kelsey even interrupted Nathan, who wanted to greet the guests and pulled him over to take photos. Feeling sorry for Nathan, Heather advised Kelsey, “Kelsey, we have enough photos. Why don’t we let Kathy rest?”
Kelsey retorted, “But Kathy is a great photographer. She can take many photos without al problem. Am I right, Kathy?”
Heather disapproved of Kelsey’s behavior. She unhappily insisted, “I’ll get the wedding planner’s photographer to help out. It’s time for Kathy to rest.”
“But their photographer is not as good as Kathy. I need Kathy to record my big day with Nathan.”
Kathy quietly took the last photo before returning the camera to the wedding planning company. She left without looking back.
Heather ran after her. “Kathy, where are you going?”
Smiling, Kathleen replied, “Mrs. Meyer, Nathan has Kelsey taking care of him. You take care too.”
“You silly child. I see you as my daughter; you’ll take care of me.”
Kathleen held Heather’s hand. “Yes. I’ll always be like a daughter to you.”
Heather lamented, “Kathy, I once thought you would be my daughter–in–law and call me your mom. I never knew that Nate would…”
“Mrs. Meyer, let’s drop it.”
“Okay. Okay.”
Clive called Kathleen at that moment. “Kathleen, are you at the airport? When will you arrive? Grace and I will pick you up at the airport.”
“I’m on my way to the airport.”
“Cool. See you in eight hours.”
“Sure.”
After hanging up, Kathleen checked the time. It was about time she departed for the airport. She took a cab to the airport without bothering to visit the Meyer residence one last time.
When she was lining up to board the flight, she received a text from Kelsey. Kelsey wrote, Thanks for taking photos for me and Nate. We loved them! Remember, I’m your sister–in–law from now on!”
Kelsey added, “Dear little sister–in–law, let’s get along well.” She inserted a victory hand emoji at the end of her message.
Kathleen smirked and took a screenshot of Kelsey’s messages, which she sent to Nathan without hesitation. She wrote to him, “Nathan, congratulations on getting married. And farewell.”
After that, she blocked Nathan and Kelsey’s numbers. From that moment onward, she wanted them out of her life.
The stewardess greeted Kathleen, “Miss, have a pleasant flight.”
She replied with a polite smile, “Thanks. It will be a pleasant flight.” Then, she boarded the flight without looking back.
