My Former Husband Ended His Life For His Ex - Chapter 4
Lachlan chuckled, sizing up Gideon.
“So, you’re her ex?”
“Hmm… Her taste was rather ordinary before. Are you thinking of trying again?”
Gideon paled, fumbling to explain.
“No, I, 1…”
I raised my hand to stop him.
“Gideon, whatever we had is over. I have a family now, and you have someone you love. I wish you happiness.”
Those last words hit Gideon hard, leaving him speechless.
He stared at me, tears in his eyes.
“Adeline, have you really forgotten our past? I can’t believe it. We were together for so long, and you loved me so much.”
Lachlan’s displeasure was obvious. He laughed coldly.
“It was only a month. How long is that really? Longer than our marriage?”
I knew Gideon was referring to our past life when I stayed by his side for ten years.
But telling that to Lachlan wouldn’t make him understand.
I shook my head, cutting Gideon off.
“I haven’t forgotten; I’ve moved on. I don’t care anymore.”
“In this life, we chose different paths, which means the past doesn’t matter.”
I returned his previous words to him.
“Gideon, let go of the past. It’s long over between us.”
As soon as I said this, Gideon’s eyes welled with tears.
I didn’t want to continue the conversation, but before I could move on, Lachlan spoke casually.
“I heard someone accused my wife of theft and wanted to report her to the police?”
The waiter, trembling, quickly apologized.
“It was my mistake. I misjudged your wife. I apologize to both of you!”
He bowed deeply, his arrogance gone.
After dealing with the waiter, Lachlan turned to Fiona.
“You wanted to introduce my wife to a new job at my hotel? Should I thank you for that?”
His lips curled into a mocking smile.
“Adeline earns millions in royalties a year. Can you offer such a salary?”
Fiona forced a smile, retreating into the crowd.
“I was just joking. Don’t take it seriously.”
Others at the banquet quickly lowered their heads under Lachlan’s gaze.
د
Those who mocked me earlier didn’t dare to breathe, fearing Lachlan would remember them.
After settling everything, Lachlan looked at me, raising an eyebrow.
I knew he was standing up for me.
I hugged my son with one arm and wrapped the other around Lachlan’s waist, speaking affectionately.
“Thanks, love. I’m not upset anymore.”
Gideon followed, wanting to say more, but stopped under Lachlan’s stern look.
Back upstairs, Lachlan quickly called someone to freshen up me and our son.
He opened his phone and had his assistant custom–order a new batch of clothes for me.
He complained.
“Those people look down on you when I’m not around.”
“Looks like I need to get rid of any clothes under six figures.”
I stopped his urge to splurge.
“I travel a lot for photography. I can’t wear expensive gowns everywhere. Just something durable and easy to wash is fine.”
Lachlan, slightly displeased, thought for a moment and suggested.
“Then I’ll get you a new car. Do you prefer a Maserati or a Maybach?”
I shook my head, realizing how upset he was over me being bullied today.
Over the years, Lachlan has treated me well.
People who knew my background assumed I’d become a full–time housekeeper for him, always lowering myself.
After all, such marriages with vast differences in status are often unequal.
In reality, Lachlan always respected and valued my career.
When work wasn’t busy, he’d travel with me, letting me teach him photography.
With him, it’s no different from any happy couple in the world.
Especially today, after seeing Gideon, I don’t regret my choice.
I thought that banquet was the last I’d see of Gideon.
Unexpectedly, I ran into him again while out for photography.
Today, Gideon wore a white T–shirt, looking sunny and reminiscent of our college days.
Seeing me, he immediately stood up.
“Adeline, I knew you’d come here.”
His eyes were filled with pain and conflict.
“You clearly haven’t forgotten the past. You still love me, don’t you?”
Instinctively, I stepped back, looking around, realizing this park was one we often visited together.
I came to the lakeside for a shoot and chose this place for convenience, not expecting Gideon to be here too.
He seemed to be waiting for me, and I felt a headache coming on, unsure why he hadn’t given up.
230 AM 0
“Gideon, the past is the past. What do you want?”
“Are you just asking if I still love you? I’ve said it countless times, I don’t. Why won’t you believe me?”
“Do you want me to say I love you? Then what? I divorce Lachlan, you break up with Fiona, and we get back together?”
Barely had I finished when Gideon rushed forward, eager.
“Of course, we can. We can be together again!”
I was genuinely stunned. I thought Gideon was just clinging to the past, feeling uncomfortable without the girl who adored him for ten years.
I didn’t expect him to really want to reconcile.
I stepped back, frowning.
“Are you crazy? Last life, you died for Fiona. This life you’re with her, and now you want a breakup?”
“Adeline, I wronged you.”
Gideon’s face showed a trace of pain, speaking softly.
