My Former Husband Ended His Life For His Ex - Chapter 3
When I returned to life, I found all my money had been spent on photography equipment. I couldn’t sell it second–hand, so I had no choice but to use it myself. Eventually, I genuinely fell in love with photography.
This time around, it’s not about pleasing others; it’s for myself.
I politely declined Gideon again, my tone courteous yet distant.
“My hobby is enough to cover my expenses, but thanks for your concern.”
Seeing my ingratitude, a flash of anger crossed Gideon’s face.
“If you don’t seize the opportunity I’m offering, don’t come crying to me later!”
I stayed silent, not telling him that now, my photography work is featured in several national publications and top international magazines. The various licensing fees add up to no less than Gideon’s income. But even if I said it, he’d probably dismiss it as boasting. After all, in my crumpled pajamas, I did look quite shabby.
It’s my son’s fault; he insisted I play with him in the sandbox. When I turned around, he had slipped downstairs again. I hadn’t had time to change clothes before chasing after him.
Just as I was thinking of an excuse to leave, the waiter seemed to have noticed something. He pointed at my clothes and said, “Balenciaga? Where did you find that outfit? Are you a cleaner here, stealing from guests‘ rooms?”
I couldn’t help but frown. “Why can’t these clothes be mine?”
Fiona sneered, mocking, “Yours? Can you afford them? What wealthy person would run around dressed so casually like you?”
She pretended to cover her nose. “So dirty, you probably wore it without washing.”
Gideon looked at me, his eyebrows furrowed tightly. “Adeline, have you really fallen to this state and still refuse to admit it?”
I didn’t want to engage with them, so I directly addressed the waiter. “If you really think I stole something, feel free to call the police now.”
I knew he was trying to please Fiona by stepping on me. Sure enough, his bravado dwindled immediately as he mumbled, “If it weren’t for the big shots at the hotel today, I’d have called the police on you already”
Fiona’s eyes lit up, quickly picking up on it. “Is it Mr. Lowe? I heard he’s here in Ocean City with his family, staying at this hotel.”
Gideon nodded, a look of anticipation in his eyes. “The project our company is working on would benefit greatly from the Lowe family’s support.”
The mention of Mr. Lowe sparked a flurry of discussion, as if a match had been struck in dry tinder.
“We’re at this banquet today hoping to meet Mr. Lowe, aren’t we? This entire building is owned by his family.”
Theard he got married and had a child in his early twenties, but who did he marry?”
As the crowd was discussing, the lobby manager rushed in, sweating profusely, followed by a group of people.
“Everyone, has anyone seen a seven–year–old boy around here, about this tall?” The manager, wiping his sweat, searched the hall anxiously.
Someone quick on the uptake guessed immediately, seeing the big commotion. “Is it the Lowe family’s young master? I heard he’s seven this year.
The banquet guests got enthusiastic, searching everywhere. After all, finding him could be a chance to connect with the Lowe family.
Gideon and Fiona joined the search, leaving me alone. I watched the chaotic hall and headed straight to the dessert area. Sure enough, I found my son there, his face covered in cream.
With a stern face, I extended my hand. “Come here.”
Startled, my son clung to the table leg. “No.”
Just as I was about to pull him over, Fiona appeared out of nowhere, self–righteously blocking me. “Adeline, what are you doing!”
“Even if you want to connect with the Lowe family, you shouldn’t lay hands on a child!”
Gideon arrived upon hearing the commotion, his eyes full of disappointment as he looked at me. “Adeline, I can’t believe you’d do something like this for fame and fortune.”
The waiter grabbed the manager to complain. “This woman barged into the banquet and stole another customer’s clothes!”
The manager’s face turned cold immediately, calling for the security guard. “Arrest this thief and send her to the police! If she scares the young master, none of you will keep your jobs!”
A satisfied gleam flashed in Fiona’s eyes as she bent down, putting on a kind face toward the Lowe family’s young master. “Come here, auntie will protect you.”
My son ignored her, and to everyone’s shock, carefully reached out to hold my hand. “Mom, I know I was wrong.”

I twisted his ear, speaking coldly, “Did you forget what the doctor said? You have cavities, and you’re still sneaking sweets!”
Seeing my son grimacing in pain, Fiona hurriedly accused me. “If he wants to eat, let him! Who are you to stop him?”
I replied calmly, “I’m his mother. Why shouldn’t I?”
Only then did Fiona realize what my son had called me. She fell silent, her eyes darting between my son and me.
I let go, and my son immediately clung to me, trying to please. “Mom, I only ate a little. I won’t get cavities.”
His cream–covered face smeared onto me. I pulled him away, annoyed. “Just wait until your dad finds out. Let’s see how he deals with you!”
My son, in his tooth–changing stage, loves sweets and has several cavities. When his teeth hurt, Lachlan feels terrible, but he can’t resist our son’s pleading and always turns a blind eye. This time, while on vacation, Lachlan was called away by the company, and I was strict with him. Yet he sneaked downstairs to the banquet to steal sweets.
Seeing my stern face, my son clung to my leg, trying to win me over. “Mom, I won’t dare again.”
The manager, trembling on the side, lowered his voice. “You’re, you’re Mr. Lowe’s wife?”
I nodded calmly. “Yes.”
He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, quickly forcing a smile. “We failed to recognize you. Would you and the young master like to go upstairs to freshen up?”
Looking at the mess of cream on us, I was about to follow the manager when someone grabbed me. Turning around, it was Gideon.
opened his mouth, struggling to find words. “Youre married? And have a child?
I pulled my sleeve free, shrugging nonchalantly. “Yes, I got married after graduation.”
Lachlan and I met through photography. While shooting abroad, he had a hiking accident and fell off a slope. The area was remote, with poor signal. I struggled to get him back up. While waiting for rescue, he curiously browsed my past works and started chatting with me. We discovered many shared interests. By the time we returned home, we were already together.
To my surprise, his family didn’t look down on my background. Lachlan smiled, looking at me with determination. “Adeline, your character and personality were my deciding factors.”
I thought my past with Gideon would make it hard to love again. But Lachlan showed me that love and being loved are mutual.
Looking back at my past life’s pain and struggles, they seemed so distant now.
My son urged me from my arms. “Mom, let’s go back to find dad. I want to play with him.”
But Gideon wouldn’t let go, staring at me relentlessly. “Stop joking. Didn’t you say you’d only love me in this life?”
“Did you say that?”
A male voice sounded behind me, followed by a chorus of greetings. “Hello, Mr. Lowe. Hello, Director Lowe. Boss.”
Turning around, I saw that Lachlan had come down as well. Holding my hand, he glanced at Gideon, his tone indifferent. “Is this your ex–boyfriend?”
Worried he’d get jealous again, I quickly explained. “We were together when we were young, just for a month. We haven’t been in touch for ten years.”
Gideon stood firm, his eyes fixed intensely on me.
“Don’t push my buttons. Didn’t you say you’d love only me in this lifetime?”
“Did you really say that?”
A voice from behind interrupted, followed by a chorus of greetings.
“Hello, Mr. Lowe, hello, Chair Lowe, boss.”
I turned to find Lachlan had joined us. He wrapped an arm around me and addressed Gideon in an even tone.
“Is this your ex–boyfriend?”
Fearing he might get jealous, I quickly clarified.
“We were together for a month when we were young, but we haven’t spoken in ten years.”
My hasty explanation left Gideon visibly shaken. I added,
“I never promised to love him for life.”
Gideon understood my implication. That promise belonged to another time. In this life, we chose new paths, rendering it irrelevant.
He protested, “But we have so much history. How can you forget everything and be with someone else?”
Fiona’s expression darkened, and I sighed.
“Why not? Aren’t you and Fiona together? You’re getting married next month, and now you’re blaming me? Isn’t that a bit much?”
Gideon flushed at my words, struggling to respond, but Fiona interrupted.
“Gideon, let’s go. She’s married now, and it’s none of your business. I’m the one who’s always been by your side!”
But when she tried to pull him away, he pushed her aside. Fiona’s face turned red with anger.
In the past, Gideon would have comforted her, but now he ignored her completely.
