Love Finally Finds its Way - Chapter 8
The Police hurriedly pulled us apart. “Madam, the person who poisoned you has been found.” Someone was being escorted over, and I opened my eyes wide in surprise. Wasn’t this the doctor friend Jasper had introduced me to?
“He has another name you might find interesting–Blake Lincoln, the same surname as you.” My heart skipped a beat.
At the police station, a paternity test report was placed before me. Blake is my half–brother.
My father had an affair years ago and concealed the existence of this illegitimate child. But my parents died unexpectedly, and Blake’s chance to acknowledge his ancestors and claim his heritage vanished instantly.
The right of Inheritance fell to me, and he wouldn’t receive any of the Lincoln family’s wealth.
So, he got to know me through Jasper. I’m generally warm and welcoming to people in my social circle, which gave Blake an opening.
The chronic poison he chose for me was colorless and odorless, accumulating over years to cause poisoning. The mechanism of death would resemble ordinary overwork.
I was working myself to the bone every day, making it the perfect way to die. He was just waiting for me to die so he could take over my Right of Inheritance.
Unfortunately, Asher discovered the clues and obtained key evidence. A silent murder had to become a chase.
Asher’s disappearance was to investigate Blake.
After being alert all night, I suddenly realized–the thing Asher forced me to take seemed to be the antidote! But now, he’s gone, and they haven’t even found his body.
“We found a survivor at the scene. Can you identify him? Is he someone you know?” The police handed over the photo. I shot to my feet. “He’s my fiancé!”
When Jasper and I arrived at the hospital room, Asher had just woken up.
“Asher!” I squeezed his hand and called his name.
But he fixed his gaze on Jasper, who had accompanied me: “Let him go!” Although his voice was weak, his tone was firm.
Jasper looked at me, then at him, and left the ward before I could say a word.
“He just came to see you, that’s all,” I said.
He looked displeased. “I don’t like him.”
“You’re the one to talk? Who authorized you to land with a bomb? And you even dared to promise me you’d come back!” I was livid.
Asher quickly grasped my hand. “I had to make sure they couldn’t catch you… Cough, cough! Fortunately, your fellow disciple acted before I could.”
Jasper? I was stunned. So Asher originally intended to die together with Blake’s men, but Jasper struck first. Luckily, Asher was only caught in the shock wave and wasn’t seriously injured.
“So you’ve really experienced the same thing like me.” I fought back tears.
He smiled, saying nothing.
