Love Finally Finds its Way - Chapter 7
Heavy snow fell that night. The Ferrari was gone from downstairs. As I drew the curtains before bed, I saw a familiar figure below.
Asher stood in the snow in a black coat, the heavy snow already covering his footprints. He looked up at me from under his umbrella, and our eyes met.
I had a fleeting memory of my past life. After our marriage, during our fiercest arguments, I would often throw him out.
My heart was always weak from being constantly angry.
After I kicked him out, he would stand downstairs, regardless of the weather, to make sure I was safe and someone could rescue me if something happened.
These details from my past life weren’t without their impact, but if mutual support comes at the cost of constant tension between husband and wife, I’d rather we forget each other and live our separate lives freely.
I closed the curtains.
The snow fell heavily all night. I tossed and turned, unable to sleep, and finally got up to ask someone to send him a scarf.
At dawn, I eagerly opened the curtains, but Asher was already gone. It seemed he wasn’t foolish enough to wait in the freezing cold.
After decades together, letting go so suddenly is impossible. But unexpectedly, I never saw him downstairs again after that.
Asher hadn’t appeared for a month, and I guessed he’d returned home. I felt a little empty.
Decades of connection, severed completely today, and ultimately, I felt a pang of regret.
But I couldn’t dwell on it, because my mental state was deteriorating, and I constantly felt exhausted. Jasper took me to his doctor friend, but it was no use.
The doctor could only recommend different herbal teas. So, I increased the amount of tea I drank to force myself to stay awake, but it not only didn’t help, it made me even sleepier.
Another drowsy night. I’d intended to go straight to sleep, but someone suddenly rushed into my bedroom. Before I could react, he’d already covered my mouth and forced something into it.
A strong, bloody smell assaulted my nostrils, and I opened my eyes in surprise–it was Asher. He was covered in blood, breathing rapidly, and held a finger to his lips: “I’m taking you away.”
He picked me up and climbed out the window. We’d only run a few steps when shouts came from behind us: “Damn it! They got away! After them!”
Asher cursed under his breath, running even faster with me. A sudden memory surfaced–in my previous life, I seemed to have died from poisoning.
I also loved drinking tea then… Could my recent symptoms be because of that?
But who would do this to me? If not Asher, then who? Who could harm me so silently in both lives?
My thoughts were interrupted by the vast ocean ahead. Looking back, countless people and cars blocked our retreat. We were surrounded.
Instinctively, I picked up a stick, but the next second, my feet left the ground. Asher scooped me up and tossed me onto a small wooden boat, the only one on the shore.
“Sit tight!” He pushed the boat into the sea. The icy seawater was bone–chilling, and his breath trembled, but veins bulged in his arms.
I grabbed his arm: “Don’t push any further! That’s enough! Get in the boat!” “Fool, this boat can’t hold two.”
“It can! How do you know if you don’t get in?” I frantically tried to pull him aboard, but he grabbed my hand.
“Fool, this boat can’t hold two.”
“It can! How do you know if you don’t get in?” I frantically tried to pull him aboard, but he grabbed my hand. His chest was submerged in the icy water, and his lips were cold.
“Scarlett, there’s a watchtower ahead. My men will be there to meet you.”
“What about you?”
“I’ll hold them off.” He kissed the back of my hand. “Don’t worry.” With a sudden burst of strength, he pushed me away.
I watched him turn back to the shore and screamed like a madwoman, “Asher! You have to come back! I’ll wait for you! If you come back, I’ll marry you!”
He waved to me. It was then that I saw what he was holding–a homemade bomb?! The boat drifted away as the shore erupted in flames. I screamed with all my might, “Asher!!” But nobody replied.
I didn’t go to the watchtower. Instead, I rushed back to the shore. There were only remains and wreckage; no sign of life.
“Asher…” My voice trembled.
“Asher!”
“Asher!” Still no one answered.
“Scarlett!” I turned my head sharply. “Asher… Senior?” Jasper arrived on the scene with the Police. “How are you? Are you hurt? Hey? Scarlett?”
I grabbed his neck fiercely. “Was it you? You’re the only one who’s ever been able to touch m things, from beginning to end!”
Whether in my past life or this one, besides Asher, he’s the only one who could have tampered with my personal belongings!
