Love and Hate Are Gone - Chapter 7
“What?”
Greg’s voice choked. “Kate knows everything. She’s gone…”
I was already on the other side of the world by that point. As soon as I got off the plane, I spotted my best friend, Sarah, whom I hadn’t seen in ages.
After I told her everything, Sarah started freaking out, ready to fly back home and go to war with Greg and Ashley. I held her back. “It’s fine. I left the divorce papers. I just want to forget they exist.”
Sarah hugged me tightly. “It’s for the best. Getting away from that jerk was the right call. Who knows what he’d do next. Let him and that b*tch, Ashley, be miserable. You’re amazing! You are talented, you know how many directors were chasing after your scripts in college? If it wasn’t for Greg you’d be a famous screenwriter by now!”
My heart sank. Sarah and I had gone to screenwriting school, and teachers called us future stars. Sarah was never going to marry, and went to Australia after graduation. But I got married to Greg and was pregnant with my first kid.
Greg said he worried about my safety, and didn’t let me work, asking me to stay home and have the kid. That was the start of my nightmare, constantly being pregnant, and having a miscarriage.
But now, I was finally free.
Sarah said she was working on a project, and was overloaded. She wanted to work with me, a 50-50 split. I nodded, eager to get back to screenwriting.
“But before that, let’s just have some fun! We can write anywhere, and I just made a killing on the last script, so let’s get drunk!”
Traveling around the world, that was our plan from college. It was finally happening. While Sarah and I were gallivanting across the globe, Greg was going crazy trying to find me. He never missed work, and it had been a while since he had been to the office.
Mark was about to take over as CEO, trying so hard to show his grandfather he was the one. But a few of his projects were run by Greg, and only Greg had the details. Greg was ignoring all calls and not going to the office, leaving Mark looking like a fool.
He made so many wrong calls that his grandpa yelled at him, putting off his takeover of the company.
Ashley came to see Greg, wanting him to get back to work, she had no intention of giving up being the CEO’s wife.
“Honey, have you still not found Kate? Seriously, she has to know when to stop. The company’s all messed up and it’s making you so tired…”
“Shut up! I don’t want to hear it. Mark is the one who can’t run the company, why are you blaming Kate?” Greg screamed.
He never yelled at Ashley, and he certainly never swore. Ashley looked shocked, pouting as tears welled up.
“Honey, I’m just worried about you, you don’t have to yell at me.”
Greg laughed, a chilling sound, “Ashley, you can drop the act. You’re not scared. You fed off Kate’s dead children. So why would you be afraid?”
“What are you talking about? I don’t know what you mean?” Ashley tried to look confused.
Greg had seen this coming, and showed her the security footage from his family’s place. Ashley was so arrogant, she’d forgotten the camera.
“All these years, you’ve been pretending to be so sweet in front of me, being so caring to Kate in front of my face, and then backstabbing her!
“If you hadn’t said all that crap at the party, I would never know what a fake you are.
“Because of you, I killed my kids with Kate again and again, and she’s never going to have any more children. I was a fool, I get it. But how could you do that to her? She wasn’t a threat. Why couldn’t you just leave her alone?!”
Ashley couldn’t lie anymore, and could only start crying and begging for forgiveness.
“Honey, I had to! I went to a fortune teller, and he said eating those…. was the only way I could get a boy! Only if I have a boy could I be secure! I was in a corner!”
“Enough! Your head is filled with your status, your spot as CEO’s wife! And you never once cared about Kate! Why would you tell her that I gave you her babies? You wanted to get rid of her, you wanted me to chase after you!”
“You wanted a son, you want to be the CEO’s wife. Ashley, I’m going to make you feel what it’s like to lose what you love the most.”
Greg clapped his hands, and some men in white coats came into the room, their eyes full of menace.
Ashley’s eyes were wide with terror. “What are you doing? I’m your nephew’s wife! The future CEO’s wife, I have your blood in my belly, you can’t do this!”
Greg laughed like the devil. “CEO’s wife? After you chased Kate away? You still think you’ll get that?”
“Take whatever is inside her and get rid of it, and don’t give her any drugs. Then, she’s going o watch you eat it.”
The men grabbed Ashley, and dragged her away. Soon, the sound of her screaming filled the whole house.
When Sarah and I got to Iceland, we fell in love with the Northern Lights. The stunning beauty was something that no camera could ever capture.
