After Jack slapped me, all his fight seemed to drain away.
He approved my resignation.
I found a time when he wasn’t at the office to pack up my things.
Before I left, I pushed open the door to Jack’s office and took the wedding photo frame from his desk drawer.
When we first set up the office, he had carefully placed our wedding photo on the desk.
But as Emma came into the picture, the decor in Jack’s office shifted to match her tastes.
The photo frame was tucked away, replaced by Emma’s favorite cartoon figurines.
I stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window in his office for the last time, looking out at the bustling city below.
When Jack and I first came to the city, we stood across the street, gazing up at the financial building before us.
I had confidently said:
“One day, we’ll have our own office in that building!”
He squeezed my hand tightly, his eyes full of determination.
“Lily, trust me. I’ll make it happen. I won’t let you down.”
He’d achieved it, but still, he ended up disappointing me.
As I walked out of the building, I unexpectedly ran into Emma.
I remembered Jack telling me Emma had been fired.
I noticed her baby bump, which was now gone.
It seemed like she had been waiting for me. As soon as she saw me, her eyes filled with jealousy.
“You bitch,” she spat, “I knew you couldn’t let go of Jack. You’re back to try and seduce him again!”
“Do you know what he said about you? He said you’re almost thirty, your skin’s nowhere near as firm as mine. He said being with me makes him feel young again.”
She looked at me with pride, clearly hoping to see anger on my face.
But I just smiled faintly and looked at Jack, standing not far behind her.
“Looks like the young lady believes everything you told her. You even had an abortion for him, didn’t you?”
“If you were any kind of man, you’d give her an explanation.”
Jack walked over, his face ashen, and looked at Emma.
“Didn’t I tell you to take the money and leave?” he said coldly.
“Get lost now.”
Tears welled up in Emma’s eyes.
“Jack, is this bitch threatening you?” she asked, voice trembling.
“I don’t believe you have no feelings for me! That night, when I asked who you liked more, me or Lily, you said you liked me more!”
I couldn’t help but laugh as I watched this drama unfold.
“You actually believe what a man says when he’s cheating?” I shot back.
Emma glared at me, enraged.
“Stop trying to drive a wedge between us!”
“You think that talking about divorce will win Jack back? You can’t even have kids! Jack will leave you sooner or later!”
Jack, nearly driven to the edge with anger, slapped Emma hard and ordered her to shut up.
He turned to me, his voice softening.
“Lily, I don’t need children. I only need you.”
I was momentarily speechless.
When it came to not understanding the basics of human decency, Emma and Jack made quite the pair.
Humiliated from being slapped in front of me, Emma’s face turned red. She opened her phone, her fingers trembling.
“Jack, I recorded everything from that night!” she hissed.
“I’m sending it to that bitch Lily right now!”
Jack lunged at her to grab her phone.
In the chaos, the video she had secretly recorded got sent to the company group chat.
I opened it.
Emma’s seductive voice filled the phone, her words like daggers.
The two people in the video immediately turned white as ghosts.
Emma let out a desperate cry and scrambled to try to delete the video.
But it was too late.
Once I got home, I forwarded the saved video to my lawyer, along with a short message:
