I Survived the Wedding from Hell - Chapter 8
Alexander didn’t even hesitate.
“Sure.”
He looked at William like he was giving orders to a junior staffer.
“William, starting today, that project’s Chloe’s.”
“No way!”
I snapped.
“William’s been working on that since last year.”
“Why the hell should Chloe get it?”
Alexander blinked, stunned I was standing up to him–especially for someone else.
He looked at me like he was seeing me for the first time.
Just as he started to backtrack, Chloe jumped in with a smug grin.
“Emily, why are you so protective of William?”
“What’s your relationship with him?”
“I mean, he did train you when you first got here, right?”
“And you two are always at business dinners together.”
“You’re not hiding something, are you?”
She didn’t need to finish.
The implication was loud and clear.
William turned bright red.

“Chloe, that’s ridiculous! I’m twenty years older than Emily!”
Emily gave her a sad puppy look.
“William, don’t take it so seriously. I was just teasing.”
The poor guy was over fifty and Chloe had him so flustered he couldn’t even speak.
“You-”
“That’s enough!”
Alexander’s voice boomed.
He was furious.
“Emily Thompson, what exactly is going on between you and William Carter?”
I didn’t even flinch.
I slammed the file I was holding right in Alexander’s face.
“Montgomery, if you’ve lost your mind, go get some help!”
He dodged the folder, but Chloe wasn’t so lucky.
It hit her square across the cheek, leaving a red gash.
“My face!” she shrieked.
“Alexander! Fire William! I don’t want to see him here again!”
Before anyone could respond, the door burst open.
“Fine! Then we’re done here!”
A sharp, commanding voice cut through the room.
A no–nonsense woman in her fifties stormed in.
“Come on, William. We’re going home.”
“Margaret!” William cried, practically in tears.
I’d never met his wife before, but now it all made sense.
Chloe pointed a shaky finger at me.
“You’re his wife? Then look at her!”
“She’s been fooling around with your husband for years!”
“Aren’t you going to teach her a lesson?”
Alexander’s eyes narrowed.
He looked like he was finally seeing Chloe for who she really was.
“Chloe… you…

But she didn’t care.
She was too busy freaking out over her face
Before I could cut straight through the drama.
Say anything, Margaret scoffed a

“I know exactly what kind of man my husband is.”
“You don’t get to make up crap.”
Then she smiled at me and took my hand.
“Emily, right? I’ve heard so much about you from William.”
“Call me Margaret.”
“He says you’re smart, hárdworking, and the best employee he’s ever had.”

Just two sentences–and she’d shut down Chloe’s lies and welcomed me like family.
Alexander looked at me, guilt written all over his face.
“Emily… I’m sorry. I was wrong about you.”
Chloe lost it.
“You’re all blind! Emily’s a slut! She’s been screwing William for years!”
“Just admit it, Emily! Admit you’re a worthless, shameless whore!”
Alexander had finally had enough.
He slapped her across the face.
“That’s enough!”
“Chloe, if you lie about Emily one more time, don’t blame me for what happens next.”
The whole room went silent.
Chloe looked up at him in horror, as if she couldn’t believe he’d actually hit her.
Alexander took a deep breath.
The proud Montgomery heir finally bowed his head.
“Emily Thompson… I’m sorry. Chloe won’t bother you again.”
Then he glared at Chloe with a coldness I’d never seen.
“Leave. Now.”
She clenched her fists but didn’t dare say a word.
She followed him out in silence.
