I Survived the Wedding from Hell - Chapter 7
I couldn’t take it anymore.
I stood up and called Alexander.
“Did you send Chloe to stir up trouble at the office?”
“If you’ve got a problem with me, take it out on me.”
“Don’t drag other people into this.”
“Seriously, Alexander–how low can you go?”
There was a long silence on the other end, like I’d just punched him in the gut.
Then finally, he spoke.
“Chloe’s at the office?”
“Emily, I had no idea. I’m coming over right now.”
He hung up.
William stared at me in shock.
“Emily… are you and Montgomery…?”
I pressed my lips together and nodded.
“Sorry, William. I should’ve told you–Alexander and I are married.”
“But we’re going through a divorce.”
“So I won’t be Mrs. Montgomery much longer.”
I pointed casually at Chloe, who looked like she’d just swallowed a lemon.
“And that right there? That’s the reason why.”

William opened his mouth, clearly unsure of what to say.
Chloe, on the other hand, looked like she was about to be sick.
Thirty minutes later, Alexander arrived.
“Emily, what happened?”
“Did you and Chloe get into it?”
He walked into the conference room, focused entirely on me–barely even glanced at Chloe.
Her face turned pale as she called out in that fake sweet tone.
“Alexander, finally!”
“I’ve been bullied half to death in here!”
She tried to throw herself into his arms for sympathy.
But for the first time ever, Alexander stepped aside.
He frowned at her.
“What are you doing here?”
His voice wasn’t gentle anymore.
Tears welled in Chloe’s eyes as she put on a sad little act.
“Alexander, your mom called me.”
“She heard about Emily’s… miscarriage, and she’s worried about Emily’s health.’
“So she asked me to step in and help out.”
I couldn’t help but laugh.

I asked for time off to rest.
Alexander’s mom told me:
“It’s just a risk, not a guarantee.”
“Don’t be so dramatic, Emily.”
She called me a country girl trying to play the part of a high–society wife.
Said I was a nobody who got lucky marrying into money, and now I was acting spoiled.
I kept working through the pain to prove I really loved Alexander.
I chased project after project, even managed to land a major contract with the city.
And now that the work’s done and the baby’s gone, suddenly she cares about my health?
What a joke.
Hooked Chloe dead in the eye.
“Oh, so you weren’t around when I was working myself sick while pregnant, but now that the project’s almost done, you’re here to reap the rewards?”
Alexander’s face darkened.
He knew how much this project meant.
“Chloe, stop this nonsense,” he said:
Then he turned to me.
“Emily, I promise–nobody’s taking this project from you.‘
Chloe’s jaw clenched so tight I thought her teeth might break.
She dropped the act.
“Fine. I won’t take Emily’s project.”

“I want the one William’s been working on.”
“Alexander, you’re not seriously going to say no to that… are you?”
