I Married My Ex’s Worst Enemy - 0025_Chapter_25
Chapter 25
Chapter 25 I’ll Drink for Her
Yolanda rolled her eyes at Gemma and then headed for the bar.
Gemma caught up with her. “Yola, are you sure he’s not a scammer? I’ve read stories online about marriage fraud. Be careful!”
They sat at the bar, and the bartender mixed them two glasses of drinks.
“Where’s your boss?” Gemma asked.
“He’s in the kitchen. We’re swamped today.
Looking around, Gemma nodded in satisfaction. “The place is classic. Elvis does have great taste.”
“I’m so flattered, Gemma.”
Elvis walked to them from their behind while drying his hands with the apron. Then he offered one to Gemma. “Welcome home.”
She was stunned for a bit before patting his hand away playfully with a smile.
“I treat Eqifrora as my home, but it doesn’t even know me.”
Elvis smiled, “It’s fine. Give it several years.”
Then he pointed at a private room on the west side and said, “The boss of Skyline Entertainment is in there hosting guests. I’ll go tell him you’re here before leading you in.”
Gemma nodded. “Alright.”
Before Elvis walked to the room, he thought of something and said to

Yolanda, “Jaslyn booked a private room, and Antwan is with her. If you don’t wanna see them, you can go up to the rooftop terrace. Kieran will be here shortly.”
Yolanda felt warm, appreciating his thoughtfulness.
“OK,” she said.
She was the only one on the rooftop terrace. Worried about Gemma, she sat at the outermost table and waved to Gemma, who was waiting in the yard.
Gemma gave her a thumbs–up, and she reciprocated.
It was quiet. She was surrounded by countless lights from households and facing a dim yellow light on the table. As the night breeze brushed her face, she felt a lot tranquil. Then she took a photo of the environment and sent it to Brent.
Shortly after, he sent her a photo, too, in which skyscrapers were split by dawn light.
She texted him, “The floors are done. I’m moving on to buying furniture.”
“Can I get a computer for gaming?” he replied.
“You’re a game fan?”
“Yeah. But I promise I’ll still do the chores on time.”
She smiled, replying, “Alright.”
“And get me the largest bed.”
She replied to this message with a speechless emoji.
Then he texted, “Don’t get me wrong. I tend to roll a lot when sleeping.”

Realizing he was teasing her, Yolanda then sent him an emoji with an angry face, and he soon sent her a crying emoji in response.
Just then, Elvis walked out of the private room together with a fair- skinned, bespectacled man in his forties. It was Freddy Blanchard, the owner of Skyline Entertainment. Elvis led him to Gemma and introduced
her.
Freddy sized Gemma up for a few seconds before shaking his head.
“I’m always straightforward, so I’ll be blunt. The first is her age–she’s too old for showbiz. Women at her age can’t make waves unless they are already famous before stepping back from the spotlight. Besides, she’s pretty indeed, but her beauty doesn’t stand out.”
Freddy was straightforward indeed. The smile on Gemma’s face was now mixed with embarrassment.
“Mr. Blanchard, she starred in a few dramas before, and I’m sure she’s more experienced than those rookies. Besides, she’s happy to start with bit parts. Any resources are fine,” Elvis said.
Freddy, however, still shook his head. “Honestly, I prefer rookies. Their ages are their biggest advantage. But… if she has connections and resources, that’s a whole different story.”
“What do you mean?” Elvis asked.
“I heard Mr. Patton is here tonight, right?”
Elvis’s eyes flickered as he said, “Yes. He’s a friend’s friend.”
“There’s a historical drama fully financed by Glory Films, a film company under the Patton Group’s name. The drama comes with an A–list
production team. If she can be part of it, I’ll sign with her even if it’s just a bit part.”
After saying this, Freddy came back to the private room. What he meant was pretty clear; if Gemma could secure a role in the drama funded by the Patton Group, it would prove she had connections and resources. If so, he’d be more than happy to sign with her.
Elvis looked at Gemma. “I can take you to the private room where Jaslyn and the others are, but you shouldn’t get your hopes up.”
“OK,” Gemma said.
Elvis hesitated. “Are you sure? You know that … they’ll definitely make things hard for you, right?”
Gemma smiled bitterly, “Dude, my hands are tied.”
Yolanda frowned as she saw Elvis leading Gemma to Jaslyn’s room.
In the next second, she heard Sidney’s mocking voice. “Wrong door, Gemma. Who gave you permission to be here?”
Elvis smiled, “There’s no harm in meeting new friends, right?”
Saying this, he opened a bottle of wine, walked over to Konnor, bowed slightly, and said, “Mr. Patton, it’s a great honor to have you here. Here’s a toast to you.”
With that, he drank straight from the bottle and emptied it in one go, stunning everyone.
Seeing his sincere gesture, Konnor picked up a glass and sipped some wine.
“Gemma, come here.” Elvis waved at Gemma. Then he introduced her to Konnor, “This is Gemma, an actress before getting married. She wants back in.”
He then elbowed Gemma discreetly.
Gemma picked up a glass of wine and said, “Mr. Patton, it’s an honor to meet you. Here’s a toast to you.”
Then she downed the wine in one go.
“Seriously, Gemma? You wanna be an actress?” Sidney scoffed. “You don’t have a mirror at home? Gosh, at least have some self–knowledge.”
“Gemma, I’m treating them tonight, and you’re not invited. Besides, look around–do you see any vacant seats? Why don’t you step out and leave the room to us? We’ll catch up some other time,” Jaslyn said, frowning.
“I don’t need a seat. I’m just here to hype the party,” Gemma smiled.
She had psyched herself up before entering, knowing she had to endure being ridiculed.
“Elvis.” Antwan looked at Elvis and frowned.
Elvis clasped his hands and said to him apologetically, “Do me a favor.”
“Elvis, we’re all friends here, and we’ll feel pretty bad if we turn you down,” Sidney said, beating Antwan to it. Then she asked the waiter to place ten glasses on the table and fill them with wine. “Gemma, we go way back, and I wanna help you. But at the end of the day, it all comes to you.”
“I’ll drink for her,” Elvis said.
“Come on, Elvis. The girls are talking here,” Sidney said with a smile, though her eyes were devoid of any emotion.
“We’re talking about 2 liters of wine…”
“It’s fine, Elvis. I’ll drink,” Gemma said.
She took a deep breath, lifted a glass, and looked at Konnor. “Mr. Patton,

my name is Gemma Werner. I’d consider it an honor if you could arrange for me to be even just an extra.”
Then she gulped down the wine mixed with tears. Though feeling utterly humiliated, she had no choice.
By the time Yolanda came to the door to the private room, Gemma had already downed five glasses. Swaying, she forced herself to continue to drink.
Yolanda ran inside at once, held Gemma from behind, and then scanned the room. “I’ll drink for her.”
Before anyone could respond, she grabbed a glass and downed it in one go.
