Golden Atonement - Chapter 69
Chapter Thirty-Five
Reaper
The second Cesar Vitale and his brothers left, I called church.
I wasn’t fucking around anymore.
Shit just boiled over and I was done fucking around.
“Massacre, call Ghost and tell him to stop second-guessing his fucking decision. I need his ass here, fast. Tell him to hire whoever the fuck he needs, but his ass better get Ari and the kids packed and moved here pronto.”
“On it, boss,” the big guy replied, leaving church with his phone to his ear.
“Matrix and Player. Fun time is over. I don’t care what the fuck you two need to do or who you bring in but start unlocking those fucking files, fast. I need to know what’s in the rest of them.”
“It’s not that easy, brother.” Matrix sighed. “We’re going as fast as we can, but without the geek squad, it’s proving to be a challenge.”
“Don’t fucking care,” I snarled. “Just get it done.”
Saying nothing more, Matrix and Player left church as well.
“Bullseye, pack your bags. You’re headed back to Tennessee.”
“Why?”
“It’s what you wanted, plus, you will be more useful there than here.”
Grumbling, Bullseye got up, saying nothing more when he left.
“Bayou and Hangman, how do you two feel about a road trip?”
“Got no problem with it.”
“Where?” Hangman asked.
“Need you both to head to Montana, find Doolittle and get that club up and running again.”
“You do know that it’s winter in those mountains, right?” Bayou asked.
“Then bring a fucking coat.”
Both men frowned but nodded when Massacre walked back into church.
“Ghost ain’t happy, boss, but he said he will be here in two days.”
“Good, now go pack your fucking bags. You are heading to Lincoln, Nebraska.”
“Why me?”
“Because you like to send my fucking wife flowers, but mainly you annoy me. While you are there, there’s a Soulless Sinners club I want to know more about, including the President, Joshua Stone. Leave no stone unturned, Massacre. I fucking mean it,” I ordered then quickly added, “And take Babyface with you.”
“Arsenal’s son?”
“Got a problem with that?”
“Nope,” the big guy quickly said. “Love road trips. Kid and I are gonna have fun.”
“You get arrested and you will stay there. I mean it. Stay the fuck out of trouble. Everyone else, go find something to do. Ravage, stay. We need to talk.”
As church cleared, Ravage took a seat at the table.
“It’s time, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, brother, it is.”
“They won’t understand.”
“They will understand when I tell them. Now, where did you hide Mandi?”
“She’s in Chicago. In her fourth year of medical school.”
“That’s easy enough. I can get one of the Vitale Brothers on her,” I said, reaching for my phone and quickly making a call.
“We haven’t landed yet.”
“I know. I need you to put one of your brothers on a Golden Asset. College student in Chicago. Goes by the name…”
Looking at Ravage, he smirked. “Savannah Scott.”
Growling at the fucker, I relayed the name to Cesar.
“Massimo will take care of her. Anything else?”
“Will let you know.”
Glaring at Ravage, I asked, “Does she know anything?”
Ravage shook his head. “No. Roxy, Moonshine, and Pops all thought it best she stayed in the dark.”
“She’s innocent, Cesar. Make sure she stays that way.”
“Consider it done,” he said, hanging up the phone.
I turned my attention back to Ravage. “Now, about you. You’ve got two days to figure out what you want to tell the club because, brother, I’m letting you know right now, your secret isn’t going to stay a secret forever. Best they hear it from you first.”
“What about Massacre? You just sent him off to fuck around in Nebraska.”
Leaning forward, I smirked. “That nosey motherfucker was in deep with Petrovitch and Baranov for over two fucking years. Did you honestly think he wouldn’t find out?”
“He said nothing.”
“Why would he? It’s not his secret to tell. Look, Jackson, I get it. If anyone understands how fucked up a family can be, it’s me. But let me tell you something. You can’t keep running from this.”
“Been running for so long, Reaper, I’m not sure I know how to stop.”
“What do you remember from that time?”
Sighing, Ravage leaned back in his chair and rubbed his hands down his face. “Not much. It’s all jumbled. I know I was young when we left. I remember seeing trees for the first time. They were so big, I thought they’d crush me. We travelled around, never staying too long in one place, then one day she was gone, and Mandi and I were placed with another family.”
“What do you remember about the woman who saved you?”
“Only that she was pretty. Her hair was like spun gold, and she had the most captivating silver blue eyes I’d ever seen. She didn’t talk much, but she taught me the bible. Told me that the meek would inherit the earth. Whatever that meant. She was nice to us.”
“And the other one? The baby?”
Ravage shrugged. “I don’t know.”
“How old were you when you escaped?”
“Eight, maybe nine. Mandi was toddling around. The baby still needed a bottle.”
“And you never told Mandi the truth?”
Shaking his head Ravage muttered, “No. Why would I? She’s perfect. She remembers nothing from that time. I don’t care if we don’t have the same parents. She’s my sister. Always will be.”
“I hate this for you, brother. I really do.”
“I know, but even I know secrets don’t stay secret forever.”
THE END FOR NOW…
