Forgotten Kinship - Chapter 10

I went to a party.

We had fun until 9 pm. I had a bunch of missed calls. It was Mom and Dad. Dad called again. I picked up. He was worried.

He said, “Autumn, Ashley’s sick. Don’t be mad. We’ll take you shopping.”

I laughed. “It’s okay. I’m leaving tomorrow.”

He didn’t say anything. I hung up. Then my phone started ringing again. It was Mom.

“Autumn, where are you? Why aren’t you home?”

I was surprised. Ashley was sick. Why would they be coming home? But I still told her.

“I’m at a restaurant with friends.”

She said, “Wait for me. I’ll be there soon.”

Pick me up? They hadn’t done that since middle school. I waited until 10:30.

It was summer, but I was cold. I got a taxi and went home.
