Finally We Got Lost - Chapter 28
Chapter 28
For days, Vincent had been obsessively tracking Kaylee’s movements. At first, he doubted the rumors about her engagement to Steven. But when he learned that Kaylee was going to work at Steven’s company, he couldn’t sit still Any longer. Anxiety consumed him, leaving him sleepless and restless.
Kaylee stared at him, completely baffled.
“What did you just say?”
When did I get involved with Steven? Why don’t I know about this? Vincent misunderstood her reaction and hurried to reassure her.
“If you want, I can set up a company for you right here in Italy. You’ll be the boss, and I’ll take care of the legalities.”
“From now on, whatever you want, I’ll give it to you. Anything Steven can offer, I can too.
Kaylee frowned. “I have nothing to do with Steven.”
As for his offer to start a company, she didn’t need his help. When she left him, she hadn’t taken anything from him, and now that they’d broken up, she wasn’t about to start. Vincent froze for a moment, then felt a surge of joy.
“So, you’re not engaged to him?”
Kaylee’s patience snapped.
“There’s nothing between us. Stop spreading baseless rumors, and don’t show up in front of me again. For the last time, we’re over!”
Why didn’t I notice how insufferable he was before? Vincent’s joy overshadowed her irritation. The local news must have been false.
“Kaylee, were you just pretending to be with Steven to spite me? I truly understand my mistakes now. I shouldn’t have been so entangled with Alina or neglected you during that time.”
“Everything was my fault. I’m begging you to give me a chance to make it right.”
He reached out, taking Kaylee’s hand affectionately.
“The last time we went to Disney, we didn’t have a good time. Let’s go again, just the two of this time.”
Kaylee’s brows furrowed in disgust as she forcefully shook him off.
“I have nothing to do with Steven, and I have nothing to do with you. There’s no act, and no reason for you to flatter yourself.”
Her lips curled into a bitter smile. Vincent was like an annoying adhesive bandage that wouldn’t come off no matter how hard she tried. She stepped forward, attempting to leave, but Vincent blocked her path again.
Annoyed, she shoved him aside. “Move. I’m going to work.”
“If you don’t want me to despise you even more, then get out of my sight.‘
But Vincent stood firm.
“I just want your forgiveness. Why can’t you give me one more chance?”
Aside from the incident at Disney, he hadn’t crossed any serious boundaries with Aliña. Why couldn’t Kaylee forgive him this once? At that moment, Steven approached from a distance, his sharp eyes catching the situation.
“Kaylee, isn’t today your first day? Why haven’t you gone in yet?”
He walked up to her, placing himself between Kaylee and Vincent, creating a deliberate distance. Relief washed over Kaylee as if she had just spotted her savior.
“Steven, I was just about to head in.”
Finally, she was rid of Vincent, her persistent shadow. The two entered the building together. Vincent tried to follow but was stopped by Steven’s assistant, who blocked his way. could only watch as the pair disappeared into the elevator, leaving him behind.
Inside the elevator, Kaylee turned to Steven gratefully.
“Thank you, Steven. If it weren’t for you, I might have been late on my very first day.”
Steven’s expression remained neutral.
“No need to thank me. Mr. Anderson and Mrs. Anderson asked me to keep an eye on you. But you should resolve things with your ex sooner rather than later. It’s not a good look for him to keep causing scenes outside the building.”
Kaylee froze, momentarily embarrassed. She quickly explained, “We’ve already broken up. He’s the one who won’t let go and keeps showing up uninvited.”
She was just as frustrated as Steven seemed to be. Steven didn’t press further but added a quick reminder as they neared their floor.
“Be careful in the future. It’s better to have the car drop you off right at the building.”
If he hadn’t happened to pass by earlier, there was no telling what Vincent might have tried. Kaylee paused, then nodded.
“I’ll be more careful. Thank you.”
