Finally We Got Lost - Chapter 21
Chapter 21
“Kaylee, who is he?”
Vincent’s voice was sharp with frustration. Had Kaylee cut off all contact with him just to immediately move on with another man. Moving on the bench, Kaylee gave Arthur a playful glare. It was his fault for insisting on reating gossip about her.
Arthur, exuding an air of superiority, turned to face his sister’s ex–boyfriend with disdain in his eyes.
“And who are you? Why are you at my home?” he asked, his tone dripping with contempt.
Arthur had already looked into Vincent before. Initially, he thought if Kaylee didn’t mind, to Vincent he wouldn’t interfere. But for to have the audacity to follow her to Italy? That was a step too far, and Arthur wasn’t about to hold back.
Kaylee’s expression remained calm and indifferent as she looked at Vincent. “We’ve broken up. There’s no reason for you to chase me all the way to Italy.”
Vincent’s tense demeanor softened when he realized the man next to Kaylee was her brother.
He quickly explained, “Kaylee, I thought…”
Then he launched into an apology:
“Regardless of what happened, I now know I was wrong. I’ve already cleared things up with Alina. From now on, I’ll cherish what we had. Can we start over?”
Arthur, worried his sister might soften, sneered at Vincent.
“You think you’re worthy of being with my sister?”
“Be grateful I’m letting you off for what you’ve already done. Leave now, or don’t blame me for being impolite. And don’t ever bother her again.”
Vincent ignored him, his eyes fixed on Kaylee.
“Kaylee, can you really just let go of the four years we spent together? I can prove myself over time. Can’t we try again?”
Let go? Start over? A shattered mirror can never be whole again. Even if pieced together, it will always bear scars. Kaylee’s lips curled into a mocking smile.
“Four years was more than enough time to prove everything.”
“Your promises lost their meaning long ago. You broke them over and over, leaving me behind repeatedly. Whatever bond we had is gone.”
“Leave. As I’ve already said, our story ends here.”
With that, Kaylee turned away, refusing to look at him again. She had thought she would never see Vincent again. She hadn’t expected him to track her all the way to Italy and uncover her whereabouts.
She had planned to have the staff deal with him casually, but Arthur insisted on seeing what kind of man he was. He argued it would help him avoid this “type” when introducing future suitors to her, and no amount of persuasion from Kaylee could stop him.
Vincent stepped forward, ready to say more, but Arthur blocked his path.
“Sir, this is the Anderson family’s home. Please leave before things get ugly.”
Seeing Arthur’s stern expression, Vincent hesitated and realized there was nothing more he could say today. This wasn’t his territory, and a confrontation with Arthur wouldn’t end well. He reined in his earlier impulsiveness and offered a polite apology.
“My apologies, Mr. Anderson. I acted rashly today.”
With that, he turned to leave, glancing back every few steps. The Anderson family’s global business empire dwarfed the Garcia family’s for research, leaving Vincent at a disadvantage. He couldn’t afford to provoke Arthur. Just before leaving, he turned back to Kaylee one last time.
“Kaylee, time will prove everything.”
Kaylee didn’t even look at him and walked away without a word.
Arthur followed her back to the living room, where he finally said, “What were you thinking, getting involved with someone like that?”
“Anyone could tell he’s completely unworthy. Give me a couple of days, and I’ll introduce you to some decent men. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied.”
Kaylee gave him an exasperated look.
“Arthur!”
Over the past few days, Arthur had spent all his free time with her when he wasn’t handling company matters. Their relationship had grown much closer, and Kaylee discovered her brother had a sharp tongue and a knack for being overprotective.
Pouring tea for them both, she replied, “For now, I’m not planning to start any new relationships. You’d be better off finding a girlfriend for yourself.”
Recently, all she wanted was to enjoy some time alone and fully embrace her newfound life of luxury. Her once ordinary life had given way to one filled with endless entertainment, gourmet food, and a bank balance with far too many digits to count. Life had never felt so abundant.
