Finally We Got Lost - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Meanwhile, at the Villa.
Vincent had been taking care of Alina in the hospital for two days, and on the third night, he finally returned home. The time he arrived, it was already late at night.
Kaylee usually kept a light on for him, but tonight, everything was dark, and the house was eerily quiet. Had she gotten angry again? Click! He turned on the lights, and the living room was empty, with only a pile of gifts on the coffee table.
Vincent couldn’t help but feel confused. “Kaylee?”
He called out several times, but no one responded. He pushed open the bedroom door and switched on the light, but the bed was empty. The window was wide open, and the curtains fluttered in the wind.
Vincent immediately noticed that there were fewer things in the room, and the entire space felt much more barren. A sudden unease rose in his chest. It felt as if something had quietly slipped away, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t hold onto it.
He strode over to the coffee table but froze in shock. A Cartier bracelet, a Lila Bear doll, a Bvlgari necklace, the scarf he had knitted himself… All the gifts he had given to Kaylee were there, with a note pressed underneath them.
A heavy weight seemed to settle in his chest, making it hard to breathe, and each step forward felt like he was walking on his own broken heart. He picked up the note and stood frozen in place. His mind buzzed, and his heart was struck as though hit by a hammer.
Kaylee wanted to break up with him? And had already left? He couldn’t believe it. Kaylee must have been jealous and was just playing a prank on him, trying to get more attention.
But instinctively, Vincent rushed into the bedroom. What he didn’t notice was that the chat logs and photos had fallen to the floor, blown under the sofa and into the corners by the wind.
The vanity was completely empty. Vincent opened the wardrobe and drawers, but only his own things were left behind, with not a trace of Kaylee.
He turned and rushed out of the bedroom, heading toward the study. The study, aside from the bedroom, was the place they spent the most time together. On their days off, they would stay there all day long.
He would be busy researching various documents, and Kaylee would sit quietly beside him reading. But as he stepped out, his pace faltered. The bedsheet set covers, and even the curtains had been changed.
It wasn’t the couple–themed set they had chosen together, but black and white tones that he had never seen before.
“When… when did she change all of this?”
Vincent couldn’t help but murmur, his hope fading as he checked the other rooms. The study, bathroom, kitchen, living room.. With each room he checked, his heart sank deeper.
Even the wall of photos that once documented their life together had been taken tom. Only a bare wall remained, with traces of glue, and the pictures had disappeared withers trace. Vincent stood still, staring blankly at all of this.
It’s impossible, impossible. Kaylee must be angry and hiding somewhere the loves me so much, how could she leave? But his frantic expression betrayed his inner turmoil. In a panic, he pulled out his phone and dialed Kaylee’s number.
Beep- The long, drawn–out system prompt was something Vincent had never imagined could feel so interminable. It lasted so long that he almost stopped breathing.
“Sorry, the phone you are calling is turned off…”
The mechanical voice completely shattered his heart, sending it plummeting to the depths. He looked again at the note Kaylee had left, unable to believe that she had left without a sound.
Just two days ago, they had gone to Disneyland together, and…. Suddenly, he remembered. It was him who had lost her. That night, two days ago, he had left Kaylee alone by the roadside because he was busy with Alina, and he hadn’t kept track of her whereabouts.
Had Kaylee made it home safely that night? When had she returned?
And… when did she leave?
