Boyfriend's Wrong Bet on False Rich Girl - Chapter 3
“Ava White, I’ll say it again. Luna and I have a very stable relationship. You don’t stand a chance. With your capabilities, you won’t be able to hold on in a top-notch company like the White’s. I suggest you be sensible and resign on your own as soon as possible.”
Stupid! Why didn’t you say the company’s name again? My grades in university were indeed not top- notch, just above average.
That was because I didn’t spend all my time on major courses.Socializing, Overseas study tours, or accompanying my dad on business trips abroad.
There were so many interesting things in the world that it was unnecessary to spend limited time studying. The business world was like a battlefield.
Nobody would ask about your college GPA, but building and maintaining connections truly demanded time and energy.
If I wanted to, I could study at any school at any time. However, I stayed in the local university because my parents couldn’t bear to part with me.
Moreover, no business school could compare to my dad’s personal instruction.
While others learnt about success stories from textbooks, my dad himself was a success story.
In our circle, things that could be obtained with money were the least worthy of our time.
Before lunchtime, words about Kevin’s identity had already spread around the company’s break room.
“I saw it with my own eyes. He and his girlfriend got out of Chairman White’s car, and the driver was also Chairman White’s driver.”
“I heard that the White family has a daughter. Could he be the chairman’s prospective son-in -law?”
“Definitely. Otherwise, who else could get the chairman’s driver to personally drive them?” The colleagues’ curiosity for gossip was continuing.
Sure enough, my dad was on a business trip, and I deliberately didn’t let Leo Green drive me.
Eager to flaunt her identity, Luna asked Leo to drive our family car and personally send Kevin to the company.
This made her status as a wealthy heiress even more believable in Kevin’s eyes.Kevin thought that with Luna’s support, he could act as he pleased in the company.
I didn’t show up at the company very often, and when I did, it was only in the executive office area.
Naturally, the employees in the basic departments didn’t recognize me.
Because of Kevin’s targeting of me, I became the villainous third party in the eyes of the company’s staff, trying to climb the social ladder by clinging to the wealthy boyfriend of an heiress.
More than once, I overheard them whispering and gossiping about me and Kevin. In their eyes, Kevin and Luna were a perfect match, a couple made in heaven.
As long as Kevin and Luna got married, Kevin’s life would be smooth sailing. I was just an ordinary worker, lucky enough to be hired by the company.
My attempts to meddle in Kevin and Luna’s seemingly perfect romance were seen as despicable, and as expected, I was targeted by everyone.
The veteran employees dumped the miscellaneous tasks they didn’t want to do on me, pinned the blame on me for data errors that I had nothing to do with at all, and even resorted to low-level tricks like saying “this seat is taken” when it came to having meals.
They brought their workplace bullying right into my family’s company. Not long after I joined the company, our team received a small project.
For our company, a project at this level was perfectly suitable for newcomers to practice on.
The newcomers hired by our company were no less competent than employees with three to five years of experience at smaller companies.
The task was assigned to several of us interns, and I swiftly completed my version within two days.
During the Monday morning regular meeting, we each presented our proposals, and the best one would be selected within the group.
Kevin was one step ahead of me, standing up to play his presentation. At a glance, I noticed that his presentation was exactly the same as mine.
Kevin glanced at me deliberately, with a mixture of nervousness and smug arrogance in his eyes, as if he couldn’t wait to proclaim his victory over me.
The irony was that the proposal I came up with was crafted in accordance with the standards of someone with over ten years of industry experience.
Kevin was indeed talented, but as a rookie, how could he compare to someone like me who had been immersed in countless business proposals since childhood?
He hadn’t even come across many of the data models that I was proficient in using. After all, textbook knowledge was at least ten years behind the times.
His pitifully scant practical experience and obsolete theoretical knowledge simply couldn’t fully understand my overall train of thought, and he stuttered through his explanation.
However, thanks to the eye-catching presentation and the overall rationality of the proposal, he still won quite a bit of recognition.
Needless to say, when I opened my presentation, the room was immediately filled with whispers.
Kaiden Stewart, the team leader, immediately knitted his brows.
“Ava, is this your proposal? It’s exactly the same as Kevin’s, word for word. It’s blatant plagiarism. In our line of work, plagiarism is the biggest taboo, and you dared to copy from a colleague? That’s really audacious!”
“Team leader, it’s not certain who copied whom yet. Don’t be so hasty in drawing conclusions. I’ve added a watermark to every page of my proposal. Take a look.”
I adjusted the transparency of the watermark to 100%, and my name was clearly displayed on every page. This was a habit I developed after my first group project in college was plagiarized, leaving a mark on all of my documents.
“To find out who copied whom, just ask Kevin to open his document. Then everything will be clear.”
Kevin’s face turned pale instantly. I knew he was counting on his status, assuming that even if he blatantly plagiarized from me, everyone would blindly side with him.
So he didn’t even bother to make a new document using my content. Such disgusting arrogance. Seeing the change in the atmosphere of the room, everyone fell silent.
Even if it was confirmed that Kevin had plagiarized from me, no one would speak up in my defense.
“If Kevin doesn’t want to prove his innocence, that’s okay. A proposal isn’t completed in just a couple of minutes. I can present all the document editing records and previous versions and send them to the work group for the team leader to review.”
“Enough, Ava. Why are you being so petty with your colleagues?”
Kaiden, seeing my forceful stance, quickly stepped in to mediate before Kevin was completely condemned.
“It’s just a proposal. Instead of focusing on improving yourself, you’re using all these underhanded means.”
“Do you think all of us would plagiarize your proposal? You’re a newcomer. Instead of putting your mind to self-improvement, you’re playing these useless tricks among colleagues. You seem like such a simple girl on the surface. Why are you so calculating?”
I smiled rather than getting angry. “Kaiden, being careful and keeping records in everything is a basic work principle. You’ve been working for so many years. Surely you’re aware of that?”
“Is this how you talk to me? Kevin is so outstanding. How could he plagiarize your proposal? Maybe you’ve tampered with it.”
“I think there must be some misunderstanding. Stay late tonight and redo the proposal. Submit it to me first thing tomorrow morning.”
“Kaiden, today is my father’s birthday.” I looked at Kaiden calmly, knowing that he had fallen right into my trap.
Today was my father’s fifty-fifth birthday, and the whole family was there to celebrate. If I couldn’t make it to the restaurant, it was clear who would be blamed.
