Boyfriend's Wrong Bet on False Rich Girl - Chapter 2
When I walked into the house, Anna Elliott was in the kitchen, sorting out vegetables.
The daily cleaning was taken care of by a cleaner, and the garden was looked after by a professional gardener.
Anna’s only job was to prepare meals for the three of us.
“What’s so great about her? It was as easy as pie for me to snatch her boyfriend away. Kevin may not come from a wealthy family now, but he’s a diamond in the rough.”
“He’ll surely make a big splash in the future. As long as I can win his heart over and keep him attached to me, all the money he earns will be mine.”
“His birthday is coming up soon, and with just such a small request from him, of course, I’ll pander to his preferences. I just can’t bear how she has everything.”
“Why should all the good things be hers alone? Don’t I deserve nice things too? I just want Ava to see that I can snatch her man away whenever I feel like it. No matter how rich she is, she can’t hold on to a man’s heart.”
Luna’s unashamed voice drifted into my ears.Usually, at this time of day, I would either be at school or out shopping around, so there were seldom people at home.
It seemed that it wasn’t the first time the mother and daughter had indulged in their fantasies while cooking.
It turned out that Luna and Anna had known all along that Kevin was my boyfriend, and Luna deliberately set out to seduce Kevin.
If they knew about it and still chose to break my relationship with Kevin, they shouldn’t have blamed me for dealing with them.
I quickly walked around the kitchen and went back to my bedroom, where I roughly took stock of the clothes and jewelry in my walk-in closet.
“Come here, please.”
I called the housekeeper who took care of my personal trifles.
Luna came out of the kitchen when she heard the noise.
She was surprised to see me at home and wasn’t sure whether I had overheard what they had said.
“These clothes are out of season and no one wears them nowadays. Please dispose of them for me.”
I deliberately put the dress that Luna had secretly worn in the most prominent position.
Seeing that I didn’t bring up the earlier matter, Luna’s expression relaxed a little.
However, when she saw the dress, her eyes became sharp and mean.
It dawned on Luna later that she had carefully picked out the most desirable and beautiful piece of clothing from my wardrobe, but it turned out to be last season’s junk that I wouldn’t even glance at.
Just like Kevin, whom she had tried every means to seduce, thinking he was a promising talent who could bring her the life of luxury she had imagined.
Without my subtle influence, Kevin’s theoretical knowledge learned at school would soon be eaten up in the business world.
He was just a gold digger who was blinded by money.
They were both so blind as to mistake worthless junk for precious treasure.
“Luna, it’s been quite a while since you last came to my house.”
I went up to her affectionately and took her arm. Despite her unpleasant expression, she managed to force a smile.
“I have something for you.”
I led her to the walk-in closet and handed her a gift box.
“This was originally a birthday gift for my boyfriend, but we broke up not long ago. It would be a waste to leave it unused at home, so if your father doesn’t mind, he can have it.”
It was indeed the birthday gift I had prepared for Kevin-a pair of luxury sneakers that he had always wanted but couldn’t afford.
For me, it was just equivalent to the cost of a meal, and I had planned to give it to him after telling him the truth in the next few days.
Luna had just asked Anna for money in the kitchen, clearly indicating that she didn’t have a decent gift at hand.
I couldn’t let her true identity be exposed so early. I needed to let this situation simmer and build up to something bigger.
“Ava, I can’t just take your things without paying. Let me transfer you the money.”
This was even more expensive than her annual tuition.
Luna said that, but her eyes were fixed on the gift box. She could hardly wait to open it and see what was inside.Kevin was my ex-boyfriend, and I knew his likes and dislikes best.
There was a high probability that the box contained the pair of shoes he wanted the most.
“It’s nothing, just a pair of shoes. As long as your father doesn’t mind it.”
Luna visibly let out a sigh of relief, took the gift box, and gave me a sweet smile.
“Thank you, Ava. I’ll treat you next time.”
She walked to the door carrying the gift box, then turned around to look at me, her expression brimming with barely suppressed smugness.
“Ava, you’re so pretty. Breaking up isn’t a big deal at all. You’ll surely find someone better. Unlike other women who try so hard to please their boyfriends, only to lose their minds at the slightest flirtation from others and can’t even hold on to their own men. It’s truly pitiful.”
“Of course. Not just any scumbag can be a boyfriend.”
Luna thought Kevin’s cheating was my biggest sore spot and couldn’t wait to show off her petty victory.
In reality, once a man cheated in a relationship, he was as good as having a sexually transmitted disease in my eyes.
I couldn’t avoid such filth quickly enough, yet she worshipped Kevin like a god.
To fawn over such a poor man like that, she must be desperate for something.
I hadn’t removed Kevin from my contacts yet, after all, the real show hadn’t started yet. Luna didn’t know that I already knew she was the one Kevin had cheated on me with.
Although she didn’t dare to openly break with me, she wasn’t willing to stop showing off her so-called victory just like that, and she wouldn’t let Kevin delete me either.
Sure enough, on Kevin’s birthday, he posted three times on social media, with more than twenty collages all featuring the sneakers.
A pitiful and shabby life, never having experienced nice things before.
Kevin casually mentioned the sneakers, and Luna gave them to him on his birthday, which further solidified her identity as a wealthy socialite.
This was my final gift to Kevin, letting him have one last sweet dream. As graduation was drawing near, everyone started looking for internships.
I handed Kevin’s resume to my father, urging him to hire Kevin.Dad was worried that I couldn’t let go of Kevin and wanted to win his heart back.
But I wasn’t that foolish.
“Dad, no matter how rich we are, we can’t have everything under our control.”
My father thought for a while after hearing that, then nodded with satisfaction. Kevin was quite capable.
Even if we could communicate with small companies and influence their decisions, there would always be large companies that didn’t have a good relationship with us yet were willing to hire him.
Kevin would stop at nothing to seize opportunities. If I wanted to ruin his career prospects, I had to get him hired by our company and then find a legitimate reason to fire him.
Before any other company hired Kevin, our company’s attitude during his background check would play a significant role.
On the day I started working at the company, I deliberately didn’t ask the driver to take me there.
As soon as I entered the office area, I bumped into Kevin.
“Ava?”
His eyes revealed surprise, but within a couple of seconds, they were filled with contempt.
“I told you we’re over. How long are you going to keep pestering me? Do you think following me to the company will make me change my mind and get back together with you?”
Kevin actually thought that I was interning at the company just to chase after him.I had no intention of paying attention to him.
I tried to walk around him and go to my workstation to start working, but he grabbed me by the arm.
