Chapter 24

Chapter 24 Your Fiancé

“It’s been ages!” Jaslyn immediately stood up and walked up to the beaming.

man,

Her smile was even a bit ingratiating; apparently, she treated him entirely differently from the way she had treated Gemma minutes ago.

‘You are?” the man asked.

Gemma chuckled and whispered to Yolanda, “He can’t even remember her. How embarrassing.”

Yolanda tugged at Gemma’s sleeve. “Let’s go inside.”

“What’s the rush? I wouldn’t miss the world for this.”

The smile on Jaslyn’s face had become awkward.

Seeing this, Sidney reminded the man, “You don’t remember her? This is Jaslyn, the hottie in high school.”

He tried hard to recall but then still shook his head. Arching an eyebrow, he asked, “Wasn’t my uncle the hottie?”

Sidney forced a grin. “Yeah, indeed; he was both the hottie and the heartthrob.”

Not wanting Jaslyn to feel embarrassed, she joked, “Remember, Jaslyn? Back then, the school walls had to be rebuilt so often because those from other schools would climb over just to drool over Konnor’s uncle.”

Jaslyn smiled to hide her embarrassment, “Of course. Some of us even formed a squad to protect him.”

“And I was the captain of Class 6!” Sidney laughed.

Meanwhile, Gemma clicked her tongue and shook her head, whispering in Yolanda’s ear, “I’m getting secondhand embarrassment for them.”

Yolanda pursed her lips, feeling the same.

Just then, Jaslyn pulled Antwan toward Konnor Patton. “You two went to the same middle school and were classmates in high school.”

Sensing Jaslyn’s fawning tone, Antwan was slightly displeased. Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he said flatly, “We met just the other day.”

“Oh, really?” Jaslyn feigned curiosity.

“Yes. Over a project.”

“That’s great! You guys have known each other for a long time. I bet your cooperation will go smoothly.”

Konnor tilted his head and smiled mischievously. Extending a hand, he said lazily, “No hard feelings, right?”

Antwan scoffed and shook his hand curtly. “Two parties collaborate for a win–win situation. If the odds aren’t great, there’s no need for

collaboration.”

Konnor said, “Impressive. You surely cop with failure well.”

“You too. The Navarro Group and the Patton Group are potential clients to each other anyway.”

“I don’t think we’re completely the same. After all, companies are lining up to work with us.”

Antwan pulled a long face as he put his hand back into his pocket.

Sensing the tension, Jaslyn shot a glance at Sidney.

Sidney instantly picked up her implication and pulled Konnor to a private room. “It’s so noisy out here. Let’s go inside and have a drink.”

Konnor hooked her chin with a finger, and she giggled. As they walked past Yolanda and the others, Sidney tilted her head and glanced at Yolanda and Gemma, the smile on her face deepening.

Elbowing Yolanda, Gemma whispered, “See? There’s always someone higher up the ladder. Even Jaslyn had to fawn over that cute guy, and Antwan totally got roasted.”

Meanwhile, Jaslyn whispered in Antwan’s ear, “Antwan, you’re friends with Konnor, right? The film company his family owns invested in a big historical drama, and they’ve been casting lately. All the actresses, even those A–listers, are fighting for roles. I’m really interested in one role. Could you talk to Konnor about it?”

Antwan frowned. “Is this why you took me here tonight?”

She said, “Well… I couldn’t do this alone because I’m not familiar with him. But I know you’re good friends.”

“We stopped being friends years ago.”

“You’re still holding a grudge because of that? It’s been years. Could you do me this favor?”

“I’ve got things to do. I’m leaving.”

Hearing this, she wrapped her arms around his arm, pleading pitifully, “Please, Antwan. Help me, OK? You don’t wanna see me upset, do you?”

He took a deep breath and stopped in his tracks.

Just then, Sidney walked out of the private room. “What’s with you two? I

finally got Konnor here. Get inside already!”

Jaslyn nodded and pulled Antwan. “Maybe there’s still room for your project.”

“I don’t think so,” he said.

Thinking of something, Sidney looked at Yolanda and smirked before saying anything.

“Yolanda, do you know who that cute guy is?”

Yolanda frowned, not knowing why Sidney suddenly asked her.

“No?”

Sidney grinned and signaled for Jaslyn to come over by waving her hand. “Jaslyn, did you hear that? She’s such a joke.‘

Realizing what Sidney meant, Jaslyn smiled while looking like she felt distressed about Yolanda.

“Yolanda, you poor thing. I hate to see you being cyberbullied again.”

Gemma snapped, “What’s your point? Do you know how obnoxious grins are?”

Sidney glared at Gemma and then focused on Yolanda again. Holding back her laughter, she said, “You claimed your fiancé bought you Block VIII at Cloud Sea Villas, right?”

Yolanda frowned. She had never said this–clearly, it was what Jaslyn told Sidney.

Meanwhile, Sidney continued, “You really don’t know that guy?”

“What are you getting at?”

“He’s the owner of Block VIII!”

Yolanda was slightly stunned. It was impossible.

“So, Yolanda, that makes Konnor your fiancé. You’re out of your mind. He’s part of the Patton family, OK? Surely, you’ve heard of his family. They built their empire based on shipping and now own multiple industries such as real estate, technology, and entertainment. Next time, come up with a plausible lie. Do you really expect us to believe you’ll marry into the Patton family? Get real.”

Stop it now, Sidney. You’re embarrassing Yolanda,” Jaslyn said, feigning a concerned smile.

But Sidney didn’t. She continued in contempt, “You even posted a fake deed online? How laughable. Konnor’s got countless properties, and though I don’t know how you managed to rent one, you shouldn’t have lied. Haven’t you realized you’ve become the biggest joke in town?”

Putting her hands on her hips, Gemma shouted, “You’re full of crap! That’s exactly Yolanda’s villa!”

Sidney scoffed, rolling her eyes at Gemma. Then she turned to Jaslyn, saying, “Jaslyn, let’s go. We’ve got business to do tonight. No point wasting time on nobodies.”

“OK.”

Jaslyn tugged at Antwan’s sleeve and glanced at Yolanda before entering the private room after Sidney.

Antwan was behind them. Irked, he walked up to Yolanda and barked, “If you can’t afford a place to live, tell me. I’ll buy one for you. Don’t embarrass me anymore!”

Yolanda sneered, “Who are you to me? Why am I embarrassing you?”

“Go and view properties tomorrow and tell me which you like. I’ll buy it for you. Then move out of that villa immediately!” he snorted and then walked into the private room.

Yolanda blinked, baffled. “What’s wrong with him?”

Gemma shrugged. “Guy’s crazy.”

Then Gemma asked, “Yolanda, about the villa… Are you sure it’s a gift from your fiancé? You aren’t scammed, are you?”
