Chapter 17
Chapter 17 Not a Pushover
Kiersten had threatened before to get Yolanda out of Cloudview Hospital, out of the neighborhood, and out of Eqifrora eventually. She was now carrying out her threats.
Yolanda walked over and signaled for them to step aside.
“Yolanda, move out now! The sight of you annoys Jaslyn. She’s pregnant and shouldn’t be upset,” Kiersten said coldly.
Yolanda tilted her head and asked the property manager, “Is this villa under the Navarro family’s name?”
Already utterly irritated by Kiersten, he replied, “Horizon Realty developed CloudSea Villas. The Navarro family has no stake.”
“So, does she call the shots?” Yolanda asked.
“She… We have no right to evict residents without a proper reason, even though you’re just a rentee.”
Yolanda nodded, used her fingerprint to enter, and then shut the door in Kiersten’s face.
“Mrs. Navarro, a piece of advice–if you wanna kick me out of here, buy the whole villa area. Given the Navarro family’s wealth, I’m sure it’ll be easy peasy for you.”
With that, Yolanda turned to walk inside.
“Yolanda, you live here on Antwan’s money! Shame on you! He’s getting married, OK? Stop pestering him!” Kiersten snapped.

Chapter 17 Not a Pushover
Ignoring her, Yolanda started to ponder over the new home’s remodeling.
Early the next morning, Caiden came over and took her to the building materials market. She didn’t know anything about remodeling, but she figured that comfort came first; after all, it was the place where she lived, not a museum or a scenic spot.
She went to the furniture market afterward and decided to handle the remodeling herself.
In fact, the structural work had been done already, and all that was lacking was a bit of color. Soft furnishings would have to wait until all renovations were finalized, and she could take the time to browse.
She spent a whole day outside but only came home with a few cans of eco–friendly paint.
“Ms. Nielsen, some of Mr. Odom’s friends are designers. Would you like to ask for their opinion? Maybe they can help you choose a style you like,” Caiden asked while taking the cans out of the car.
She shook her head. “Easy will do. It doesn’t have to be any style.”
“Then… would you like me to reach out to some workers?”
“No need. I’ll do it by myself first.”
“All on your own? Are you sure?”
“I just wanna give it a go.”
After seeing him off, she started to tidy things out, moving items away to prevent stains. As her gaze roamed over the room, she knew by the style that Brent was the same as her–they both preferred simplicity.
Given that, simple decor would suffice–but that didn’t preclude the space from being cozy.

Besides, she wasn’t planning on using his money. It wasn’t because she was making a stance or something; rather, since they might part way at any time, she didn’t want to owe him anything.
There weren’t many things at home, and she covered the big ones with plastic sheets. By the time she was done, it was dark already, so she decided to do the painting tomorrow.
Too lazy to cook, she had some instant pasta ready, set up a table in the yard, and ate there. Meanwhile, she thought about renovating the yard- maybe building a pond and having some flowers planted, and she could sip coffee here from time to time.
Only then did she realize that though she had lived in Antwan’s villa for eight years, she had never thought of changing it into something she liked.
Just then, her phone dinged. It was a video sent by Kaylen.
“The Navarro family is outrageous. They still wouldn’t want to leave you alone.”
She clicked on the video, which showed Jaslyn at a brand event
accompanied by Kiersten. A paparazzi reporter asked Kiersten about her opinion on Antwan’s apology.
Kiersten sneered before saying, “That’s what men are like. Instead of settling down first, they always want to try out different things. Given Antwan’s status, women have been lining up to please him, and all he did was choose a pretty one among them. You may call it dating, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s just spending money to have some fun. But you gotta admit–she’s a doctor, a smart one. She knows that she should rip him off while she still can. Girlfriend? That’s what she calls herself. No matter what, at least she should have the decency to give Antwan whatever she took from him.”

Yolanda knew at once the clip must have been spread wide already, and the comment section was packed with harsh words.
She had already moved on, but they wouldn’t leave her alone.
Opposite her, a car came to a stop. Antwan stepped out of the driver’s seat, followed by Jaslyn and Kiersten at the back.
Taking a deep breath, Yolanda strode out of the yard and walked toward them.
‘Yolanda? You live across from us?” Jaslyn was dumbfounded; clearly, she didn’t know.
Ignoring her, Yolanda glanced at Kiersten and then shifted her gaze toward Antwan.
“Kiersten said I took a lot of things from you. What are they, exactly?”
Antwan frowned. “No need to stir up trouble.”
“I’m not the one stirring up trouble. You and I broke up already, and it was a clean break. But Kiersten still wouldn’t leave me alone. Now that we’re all here, let’s talk things out. I don’t want to leave anyone with the impression that I took advantage of you!” Yolanda snapped.
“Seriously? You’re questioning Antwan? The only reason you got to live here for eight years?” Kiersten said while pointing at her nose.
“Yeah, I did live here, but I covered all the daily expenses. They were enough to offset the rent!” Yolanda refuted.
“You… You got a job at Cloudview Hospital through his connections. I’m not wrong about that, am I?” Kiersten asked.
“I got a job there through my own merit. He had a fallout with his family back then. How could he be of help?”

“Then… You were together for years. Surely, he sent you expensive jewelry, clothes, and bags, right?” Kiersten refused to give up.
Looking at Antwan, Yolanda sneered, “You’re right about that.”
Kiersten sneered, “I knew it.”
Meanwhile, Yolanda walked to a dumpster, took out an aluminum can, popped off the tab, walked back to Antwan, and threw it at him.
“He proposed to me a while ago with a soda can tab for a ring. I threw it away. He has it back now!”
Kiersten was about to hurl a bunch of insulting words at Yolanda, but the latter’s words choked her. At the same time, Antwan stared at Yolanda, his jaw tightened, his eyes deep and cold.
Yolanda took a few steps back and looked at Kiersten. “So, don’t smear my name anymore. I’m not a pushover and am happy to argue with you at any time. I’ll even say yes to a debate on social media.”
“You’re living in Antwan’s villa!” Kiersten retorted.
“I’m living in my fiancé’s villa. It’s got nothing to do with Antwan,” Yolanda said.
“What the heck? You’re getting married?” Obviously, Kiersten didn’t buy
- it.
Yolanda said, “Yes, very soon.”
Kiersten sneered, “Yeah, right. Whoever marries you will be the biggest joke in town.”
A
“Just wait and see then,” Yolanda said.
Then she was about to leave, but Jaslyn stopped her.
“Yolanda, since so, we’ll be neighbors, right? That’s great. I was just
telling Antwan on our way back that since you don’t have a job, you must be desperate to find a new one. And I happen to need a maid. What are the odds? You used to be an obstetrician, and Antwan has told me how great your cooking skills are. You’re the perfect candidate.”
