Chapter 9 Ink
Yolanda knew her limits, so she wasn’t too drunk.
But by the time she stepped out of the bar, it was already past midnight. The streets were nearly empty, with few cars or pedestrians.
There was still a bit of a walk from the bar to the villa, and it was hard to get a cab there.
She held onto the railing as she walked down the steps. Just as she was about to pull herself together and head home, a black Bentley pulled up in front of her.
Yolanda’s heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively stepped back.
A man in his fifties with graying hair got out of the car.
“You must be Ms. Nielsen?” he asked from a few steps away.
“I am,” she replied, pursing her lips.
The man smiled immediately. “Ms. Nielsen, I’m Mr. Odom’s driver. My name is Caiden. Mr. Odom asked me to pick you up and take you home.”
Mr. Odom? Brent Odom?
Yolanda quickly pulled out her phone. Sure enough, Brent had left her a message.
“I sent Caiden to pick you up. Go home and get some rest.”
Seeing the message, she finally felt at ease.
“Thank you. I appreciate it.”

trouble at all. Happy to help.”
Once inside the car, Yolanda couldn’t help but feel confused.
Brent worked in a company. Maybe he was an executive, but still a salaried employee. How could he afford the most expensive villa in the city, and even have a personal driver? It kind of surprised her.
“Mr. Odom also said you could call me anytime if you need a ride. And if you ever need help with anything, don’t hesitate to ask.”
“Alright.”
Though confused, Yolanda wasn’t particularly curious.
When she got back to the villa, she messaged Brent to let him know that she was home safe.
She didn’t expect him to reply, but he sent back a “Good night“.
Yolanda replied, “Good morning.
After taking a shower, she could see light and hear voices from outside.
She stepped onto the balcony and saw a car parked across the street.
Kieran and Antwan were standing in front of the villa, seemingly trying to figure something out.
“Seriously, Antwan, this is your house. How can you not know the code?” Kieran asked, clearly exasperated.
Antwan ruffled his hair in frustration. “I usually only come over when I know she’s home. I just knock and she opens the door.”
“What about the fingerprint scanner?”

“Never set it up.”
Kieran let out a long sigh. “Looks like we’ll have to call Yolanda. Go ahead.”
Antwan kicked the door. “She blocked me!”
“Then there’s nothing we can do.”
“You call her.”
“Me?” Kieran scoffed. “She told me if I ever call her again because of you, she’ll cut ties with me.”
“Then let her.”
“No way. You and she can break up, but I can’t break ties with her.”
“You looking for a beating, Kieran?”
Kieran chuckled. “But seriously, think about it. Maybe the code is one of your birthdays? Or some other important date?”
Antwan frowned and thought about it for a bit. Then it came to him.
“Maybe it’s the day we made our relationship official.”
Kieran snapped his fingers. “There you go! Now open the door.”
Antwan snorted. “Who even remembers the exact date?”
“You don’t know?”
“There were too many ‘important‘ days. Who remembers all of them?”
“But that one was special.”
“Not really.”

“Try 160805.”
Antwan frowned. “How do you know that?”
“Because that day was also Yolanda’s birthday. You confessed to her on her birthday, and she said yes. That’s when you two got together. Elvis and I were there too. It was actually pretty touching.”
“Her birthday?”
“Yeah. But over all these years, have you ever celebrated Yolanda’s birthday?”
“It’s just a birthday. What’s there to celebrate?”
“But you throw Jaslyn a full–blown birthday party every single year. Whole production.”
Antwan shot Kieran a glare, then looked down and keyed in the code. Sure enough, the door opened.
“You should change the password later. Use Jaslyn’s birthday or your wedding date, something you’ll definitely remember.”
“Screw off!”
Since Kieran didn’t call her, Yolanda felt that even though she and Antwan had broken up, she hadn’t lost Kieran as a friend.
That night, Yolanda slept better than she had in a long time.
She still intended to buy back her parents‘ house. But now wasn’t the right time. Antwan would definitely make things difficult for her.
She would wait. Maybe after he married Jaslyn, he’d no longer have the energy to bother her.

In the morning, Yolanda was still in the clinic.
During a break, Kaylen showed her a trending post online.
“Jaslyn’s team just responded to the recent controversy. They claimed she has no connection whatsoever to Wayne Larsen and said they’ll sue anyone spreading rumors. The statement also said she and Antwan started dating as soon as they got into college and have always been faithful to each other. The cheating rumors are all fake.”
Yolanda gave a cold laugh at that.
They were already in a relationship? Faithful to each other?
“But they didn’t deny the rumor about Jaslyn’s suicide attempt. Just said she’d been struggling with a few things lately but still chose to trust her fiancé.
“That didn’t sound right…”
“Of course it doesn’t. They cleared up the rumor about Jaslyn and Wayne but didn’t clear your name at all. In fact, they implied that you seduced Antwan and cracked their relationship, which pushed Jaslyn to attempt suicide.”
Sure enough, the commentary was full of insults.
“It’s all clear now. Yolanda, as Jaslyn’s attending physician, used her position to get close to Antwan and tried to seduce him. Even after being rejected, she wouldn’t back off, and in the end, it drove Jaslyn to attempt suicide!”
“Disgusting. She doesn’t deserve to be a doctor!”
“Doctors don’t make much money anyway. Better to latch onto a rich guy. Less effort, right? Just lie in bed and moan a few times.”

Kaylen scrolled a bit more and then slammed her phone shut, furious.
“Yolanda, you see? You don’t wanna make a fuss, but it doesn’t mean they’ll let you off the hook.”
Yolanda frowned.
She didn’t work in the showbiz. She really didn’t want to get dragged into such a mess.
But Kaylen was right. If the rumors kept spreading, they would start to affect both her personal and professional life.
As she was thinking of how to handle the situation, a girl wearing sunglasses walked in.
“Hello, please have a seat.” Yolanda composed herself, decided to deal with everything after work, and shook her mouse to wake the screen. She looked up and asked, “What symptoms are you experiencing?”
The girl didn’t sit down, nor did she speak.
“Hey!”
Before Yolanda could finish her sentence, the girl suddenly pulled out a bottle of ink and splashed it at her.
It happened so fast that Yolanda didn’t even have time to dodge.
The pitch–black ink splashed all over her face and body, staining her white coat with large black blotches. It smelt terrible, too.
Kaylen reacted first. “What the hell are you doing? Security! Security!”
The girl laughed smugly. “Lady, how desperate are you for a man, going after someone else’s fiancé like that? If you’re that starved, just hit the street and pick any random guy. You may go to a motel. As long as he’s

willing, go ahead and slut it up! And seriously, look in the mirror. With that scary face of yours, you think you can compare to Jaslyn?!”
Having said that, the girl turned and ran off.
Yolanda, soaked in ink, didn’t even have time to react, let alone defend herself.
Outside, a crowd had gathered to watch. Many of them had their phones out, recording.
“Move along! This doesn’t concern you. Go back to your appointments!”
Kaylen quickly shut the door. Then she took one look at Yolanda and began stomping her feet in anger.
She hurriedly wet a towel and started wiping Yolanda’s face. It took several tries before she managed to clean it off. But the clothes… There was no saving them.
“Yolanda, are you okay?”
From the moment it happened until now, she had just sat there in silence.
“Do you have any ink?”
“Huh?”
Yolanda took a deep breath. “Kaylen, help me find another bottle of ink.”
