Chapter 7
Chapter 7 A Shameless View
When she came out of the hospital room, Antwan had already crouched
down.
He musthave reached his limit.
Last night, he’d been hit on the head and lost a lot of blood. He also got angry. Worried and frustrated, he rushed over right after leaving the hospitaland stayed up all night until now.
He was such a devoted man, truly the type who would love to death without regret.
How had she never seen it before? She had been so foolish that she even
thought that he could fall for her one day.
“How is she?” Antwan stood up the moment he saw her, raking a hand through his hair.
“The cut on her wrist is shallow. Clearly, she wasn’t that determined to die,” Yolanda said.
“Watch your mouth!” Antwan frowned.
“I’m just stating the facts.”
Antwan glared at Jaslyn and snorted. “Last night, I promised to marry you. You musthave been thrilled. You probably got up early, grabbed your ID, went to the courthouse, and waited all morning for me, right? Yet I didn’t show up. That’s why you’re so upset now.”
Yolanda quietly watched Antwan. He was really full of himself.
“Give it some time. Once I’ve helped Jaslyn settle her situation, we can
talk about us.”
Yolanda let out a breath. “I told Jaslyn you proposed to me last night.”
“What?” Antwan frowned. “Why would you tell her that? She needs me right now!”
“Oh? So you’re planning to marry me but still want to keep it a secret from her?”
“Well… that’s something I should’ve told her myself!”
“Fine. Then go ahead and tell herabout itproperly.”
With that, Yolanda turned and left.
”
Marrying her? Making it up for her? Those were just bullshits.
Did they really think she was some kind of fool they could toy with?
She wondered what kind of tricks they would come up with later.
That morning, Yolanda worked in the outpatient clinic. After seeing all her patients, she went to the cafeteria with Kaylen.
“The news about Jaslyn attempting suicide and being admitted to our hospital got leaked online,” Kaylen whispered to Yolanda, “but it was quickly taken down.”
“Oh.” Jaslyn was the eldest daughter of the Petersonfamily. Besides, with the help of Antwan, it didn’t surprise Yolanda that it had been taken down.
“So now someare sayingthat shecheatedwith Wayne and that the baby she’s carrying is his.”
285 Vouche
“I see.”
“But othersare sayingthat Antwan wouldn’t raisesomeone else’s kid. Well, what can I say? Love makes people lose their heads. I think it’s possible though.”
Afterspendingthe whole lunchtimelistening to gossip, Yolandafinally learned something she hadn’tknown.
Wayne’s wife apparently had a strong background, the kind even Jaslyn wouldn’t dare cross.
So there was no way Wayne would or even dared to, divorce his wife for Jaslyn.
In the afternoon, Yolanda went to the inpatient department.
During her rounds, she stopped by the VIP ward. Antwan was silently peeling an apple, while Jaslyn lay weakly in bed, looking as if she were seriously ill.
“Yolanda, you’re here,” Jaslyn greeted her softly when she saw her come in.
Yolanda walked to the bedside and asked if she felt unwell anywhere.
“I don’t feel well here in my chest. I struggle to breathe.”
Yolanda listened with a stethoscope, only to find Jaslyn’sheartbeat was perfectly normal.
“I’ll schedule you for an ECG.”
“Alright.”
Yolanda nodded and was about to leave when Jaslyn called out to her.
“Yolanda, Antwan, and I grew up together. I always thought our feelings were just childhood friendship, but these past few days have made me realizethat I’mactuallyinlovewithhim.”
Yolanda almost laughed. Antwan was right there beside her, yet Jaslyn deliberately picked such time to confess. She had to do it in front of Yolanda, right?
She really was an actress. So dramatic!
Yet Yolanda simply put her hands in her pockets and watched Jaslyn act.
“I’ve owed him for so many years. I want to make it up to him. The wedding will go on as planned. This time, I want to marry him with all my heart.”
Yolanda tilted her head to glanceat Antwan, who was stillpeeling fruitwith his head low.
“Mr. Navarro, didn’t you hear that? Aren’t you going to say something?”
Antwan looked up and glared at her.
Yolanda shrugged and turned back to Jaslyn. “And then?”
Jaslyn pulled a check out from under her pillow, glanced at Yolanda, and then handedthe check over to her.
“Antwan doesn’t love youand you know that. Between the two of us, you’re more like the homewrecker. But since you’ve been with Antwan for eight years, considerthe 150 thousand asour compensation to you.”
Yolanda stared down at the check in silence.
So she became the homewrecker?
She sold herself for eight years and this was all she got?
45.59%
“Not enough?” Antwan finally spoke up.
Yolanda looked up at him, only to see that he wore the same arrogant expression as Jaslyn.
“Not enough,” she said.
Antwan nodded and pulled out another slip from his wallet. “Well, here’s another million. Is that enough?”
“Still not enough,” she replied.
“Hey, Yolanda, do you really think you’re worth that much?”
Yolanda bent down and picked up the check and the black card.
She stared at the two items and silently chuckled for a long time.
Then, she tossed the card back and only kept the check.
“The moneyisn’t compensation from you two. It’s repayment.”
Shethenturned to Antwan. “In our second year together, you fought with your family and ran away from home. You said you wanted to start a businessandprove yourself to those who looked down on you. But you had no money, so I sold the house my parents left me to raise you 150 thousand.”
She raised the check in her hand. “As for the interest, consider it a tip for your good performance in bed.”
Antwan’s face instantly darkened. “Yolanda!”
“But my love is priceless, Antwan. You can’t afford it. Never could, never will.”
With the check in hand, she walked toward the hallway. Just then, she
noticed a man standing at the door wearing a cap, holding up a phone.
She frowned. The moment he saw her, the man turned and ran.
“Hey! What are you doing?”
Anurse shouted at him.
Yolanda stepped out and only caught a glimpse of his back as he disappeared into the distance. He was most likelyto bea paparazzo looking to dig up celebrity gossip.
But she didn’t think much. She wasn’t a celebrity anyway.
Back at the office, she excitedly called a real estate agent she knew.
“Emely, I want to buythe house my parents left me. Could you ask the current owner if they’re willing to sellit? I’m willing to pay above market value.”
“That place has been empty for a while. It’s not much use to the current owner. Maybe they’ll agree. Hold on. I’ll ask them right away.”
That house was left to her by her parents. Back then, she couldn’t bear to watch Antwan wasting his life, so shesold it for his sake.
Since then, she had been savingup, hoping to buy it back.
She could’ve asked Antwan for the money, but she’d given it willingly back then, so she didn’t want him totake it the wrong way.
Antwan knew perfectly well she sold her parents‘ house to help him, yet after his company succeeded, it never occurred to him to buy it back for her.
While she was anxiously waiting, Kaylen came to her.
J
“Yolanda, you’re trending online!”
Yolanda paused and quickly checked her phone. She really had made it to the trending searches.
At the top was a video of her taking the check from Jaslyn’s hospital room.
