Begged All You Want, But You Will Never Have Me Back - Chapter 20
It was finally over. I sat in Xavier’s hospital room, watching as the doctors finished their examination. He was alive. He was here. But I still couldn’t breathe properly.
“Are you sure he’s okay?” I asked for the fifth time.
The doctor gave me a patient smile. “He’s stable, Miss Johansen. Just some bruises, minor cuts, and exhaustion.“
That should have been enough. That should have made me feel relief. But my fingers still trembled, my chest still ached with fear.
Xavier sighed as he reached for my hand, his thumb grazing over my skin. “Entice. I’m fine.“
I turned to him, meeting his gaze. “You almost died.”
He squeezed my hand. “But I didn’t. Okay, calm down. I promised I would come back, and now I’m here.” He kissed me. “I love you, Entice.”
“I love you, too,” I replied, finally calming myself.
I exhaled sharply, closing my eyes for a moment. Once the doctors left, Xavier finally told me everything.” “Nathan’s plan was never to help,” he admitted, leaning against the pillows. “He lured me into a trap.”
My jaw clenched. I had known Nathan was lying. But hearing it confirmed still made my blood boil.
“I should’ve seen it coming,” Xavier continued. “I let my guard down.”
I shook my head. “None of this was your fault. I was the one who told you about it. I’m really sorry! But why didn’t you come back sooner? What did he do to you?”
His eyes darkened. “I was locked up, Entice. They kept me drugged–knocked me out whenever I tried to fight. I woke up just in time to hear them planning how they’d kill me.”
My heart clenched. The thought of him alone, trapped, suffering while I was out there searching–it destroyed me. But it didn’t matter anymore.
I grabbed his face, forcing him to look at me. “Nathan and Amelia are both in custody now. They can’t hurt us anymore.“
Xavier exhaled, his expression softening.
“What matters,” I whispered, “is that you came back to me.”
His hands moved to my waist, pulling me closer. “I told you I would.“
I smiled, pressing my forehead against his. “Never leave me again.“
His voice was firm. “Never.”
The world exploded with news about Nathan’s crimes. His trial was quick. With all the evidence, the testimonies, the confessions- there was no way out.”
The final ruling? Life in prison. No chance of parole. Nathan Silverfang was finished. And just like that, the chapter of my past was finally closed.
With everything settled, I could finally focus on the future. And I had a secret to tell Xavier.
I had been planning it for days, waiting for the right moment. Tonight, it was finally happening.
The surprise was set. Candles flickered around the dimly lit dining room. Soft music played in the background. A warm dinner was placed on the table, untouched.
I stood there, nervous. I had faced gunmen, betrayals, torture, and near–death experiences. And yet, somehow, telling Xavier I was pregnant was the most terrifying thing I had ever done.
The front door opened.
Xavier stepped in, pausing when he saw the setup. His eyes flickered with curiosity. “What’s all this?”
I shrugged, trying to act casual. “Just a celebration.“
His lips twitched. “For what?“
I gestured for him to sit. “Dinner first.”
He obeyed, but his eyes never left mine as we ate. He knew something was up. I waited until the meal was done before handing him a small velvet box.
Xavier raised a brow. “You’re giving me a gift?“
I bit my lip. “Open it.”
He flipped it open. Inside was a tiny pair of baby shoes.
For a moment, he didn’t move. Didn’t breathe.”
His hands tightened around the box, his eyes slowly lifting to meet mine. “Entice…”
I smiled, tears forming in my eyes.
“I’m pregnant,” I whispered.
His breath hitched.
Then he moved. Xavier pulled me into his arms, holding me so tightly I could barely breathe.
His lips pressed against my forehead, my cheeks, my lips–over and over, as if he was making sure I was real.
“I love you,” he murmured between kisses.
For a moment, he didn’t move. Didn’t breathe.
His hands tightened around the box, his eyes slowly lifting to meet mine. “Entice…”
I smiled, tears forming in my eyes.
“I’m pregnant,” I whispered.
His breath hitched.
Then–he moved. Xavier pulled me into his arms, holding me so tightly I could barely breathe. His lips pressed against my forehead, my cheeks, my lips–over and over, as if he was making sure I was real.
“I love you,” he murmured between kisses.
I laughed softly. “I love you too.”
He cupped my face, his forehead resting against mine. “You’re really pregnant?“
I nodded.
His hands moved to my stomach, his touch warm and gentle. “We’re having a baby?“
I nodded again, tears slipping down my cheeks.”
Xavier exhaled shakily. “God, I don’t even know what to say.”
I chuckled. “For the first time ever, Xavier Esralde is speechless.”
He let out a breathless laugh. “You caught me off guard.“
Then–his eyes darkened with determination.
“Marry me,” he said suddenly.
I blinked. “What?”
His grip on me tightened. “Marry me. Right now. I don’t want to wait anymore.“
Tears welled in my eyes again.
We had already been engaged before everything went to hell. But this was different. This wasn’t just a business deal. This wasn’t about power or control.
This was love. Real, unbreakable love.
“Yes,” I whispered.
Xavier’s smile was blinding.
He grabbed my hand, slipping a ring onto my finger. The same one from before–but now, it meant more.”
“Say it again,” he murmured.
I looked into his eyes, the man I almost lost, the man I fought for, the man who was my future.
“Yes,” I said firmly.”
He kissed me, deep and slow, sealing our forever.
This time, nothing would take him from me. Nothing would stand in our way. And as I felt his hands cradle my stomach, his touch filled with love and promise–I knew. Our story was just beginning.
