Begged All You Want, But You Will Never Have Me Back - Chapter 14
The investigation was ongoing, but there was no trace of Amelia. Xavier was handling everything, coordinating with his men, pushing every lead. But nothing. No sightings. No records. No mistakes. It was as if she had vanished.
“She might have left the country,” Xavier told me one evening, his expression dark.”
The thought made my stomach twist. If she was gone, she could plan for months–even years–and strike when we least expected it.
I clenched my fists. My mother still hadn’t woken up. Everything was falling apart, and I had no way to stop it. Then, just when I thought things couldn’t get worse-
Nathan showed up. I was outside my mother’s hospital room when I saw him. Nathan Silverfang, standing in the hallway, looking pathetic.
I didn’t even think. I pushed him back. “Leave. I don’t need you. Didn’t I already tell you that?“
He didn’t move. “Entice, wait. Just listen to me-“
“I have nothing to say to you.“
“I just-”
“Apologies won’t change anything.” My voice was sharp, unshaking. “You think saying ‘sorry‘ will erase the years of lies? The betrayals? The way you let Amelia ruin my life? You’re wrong! I left you already and there is no way I’m coming back.”
Nathan flinched. “I know I don’t deserve forgiveness.“
I scoffed. “Then stop asking for it. Let the law and the universe handle you. I’m done.“
I turned to leave, but his next words stopped me.
“What if I tell you I know where Amelia is?“
I froze. Slowly, I turned back, narrowing my eyes. “You’re lying.“
Nathan shook his head. “I’m not.”
I folded my arms. “And why should I believe you?“
He hesitated.
I took a step closer. “Maybe you were the one who helped her escape. Maybe you’re protecting her. Maybe you’re just as guilty as she is. Do you really think I would dare believe you when you were the first person who had betrayed me?“
Nathan’s jaw clenched. “You really think I’d do that?“
I laughed bitterly. “Yes, because from what you had done to me, it was so obvious you were willing to do everything for Amelia, so yes.”
I stared at him. All I could feel now was hatred and I knew for a fact that I would never forgive him, especially when I had proof of him working with Amelia.
The tension between us grew thick. Then, footsteps. Xavier arrived, his eyes instantly locking onto Nathan. And just like that, the air shifted.
Nathan stiffened. Xavier stepped forward, his voice dangerously low. “Why the hell are you here? I told you to stay away from my wife.”
Nathan didn’t back down. “I came to talk to Entice, and wife… your wedding was postponed.“
Xavier scoffed. “So, what? She is still going to be my wife, and you’re just an ex. You’ve done enough damage. Get lost, Nathan.“
Nathan exhaled sharply. “You don’t get it. If you don’t find Amelia first, she won’t stop until you’re dead. I know because she told me the plan and wanted me in but I said no so I was here.“
Xavier’s expression didn’t change. “And why do you suddenly care?“
Nathan hesitated. He stared at me and then, he told the truth.”
“Because I want something in return.“
Of course. Nathan helping us without something in return would be impossible. He wasn’t helping us out of guilt. He wasn’t doing this to fix his mistakes.
“My case. My business,” he admitted. “I want help.“
I let out a humorless laugh. “You really think I’d ever help you?“
Nathan’s eyes darkened. “I’m offering you something valuable. Do you really want to risk not believing me?“
I didn’t trust him. Not for a second. I was done with him. So I shoved him back. “Get out.“
Nathan wiped his mouth, his eyes filled with something unreadable.
“You’ll regret this.“
And with that, he left. I stood there, my breathing uneven. Then I felt Xavier’s hand on my shoulder.
“Forget him,” he murmured.
But I couldn’t. Because deep down, I knew–Nathan wasn’t bluffing. But how could I trust the man who broke me over and over again??
That night, Xavier and I left the hospital for the first time in days just to get some fresh air. We left my mother with some of our bodyguards as we were scared that something might happen again.
Xavier took me out for dinner, forcing me to eat, forcing me to breathe. I managed to at least relax as I also didn’t want to burden Xavier in case something happen to me. But when we returned, my entire world shattered.

The moment we stepped inside, alarms blared.
“Code blue!”
The words slammed into me like a brick. At first, I was denying that it was coming from my mother’s room at the end of the hallway, but I know that it was indeed her. My body moved before my mind could catch up. I ran through the halls, my heart pounding.
Then I saw it-
Doctors. Nurses. Chaos. And my mother, lying on the hospital bed, her body lifeless as they tried to revive her.”
“No,” I whispered, my throat tightening. “What is happening here?” I asked our bodyguard. “I told you to guard her.”
“We weren’t sure. A doctor came inside and then it happened.”
“A doctor?” I clenched my fist. “She must be fake. Go find her or I’ll fire all of you!”
“Sssh, calm down.” Xavier hugged me but I just couldn’t calm down.
My mother could die. No. Not again. I stood there, frozen, watching as they pressed on her chest, their voices urgent, desperate. I haven’t done a lot of things with her yet, so please, no–she can’t die!D
But minutes felt like hours. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t move.
Then–One of the doctors stepped back, exhaling sharply. “We got her.”
I collapsed into Xavier’s arms. She was okay.
For now. But when I looked down, something else caught my eye.
A piece of paper. Crumpled.
I picked it up, my hands shaking as I unfolded it. And when I read the words, my blood turned ice–cold.
“Next time, I’ll make sure your mother dies. But for now, let’s have fun.“
The paper shook in my hands.
My breathing was ragged.”
It was her.
Amelia.
She was watching us. She was close. And I had no idea where she was.
I clenched my fists. I didn’t want to do this. But I had no choice.
I called Nathan. When he answered, I didn’t waste time.
“Where is she?” I demanded.”
Nathan exhaled. “So, you believe me now?“
I closed my eyes. “If you give me the information, I’ll clear your name.“
A deal. A dangerous one. But I didn’t care. Because this wasn’t just about me anymore.“
It was about stopping Amelia–before she killed someone I loved.”
