Becoming a Wolf Queen - Chapter 5
“Stop with your pitiful, little tricks, Rhea.” Rook turned back and gave me that familiar taunting smile he always threw at me.
“There’s a limit to my patience. Don’t test me by using this threat on me.I’m the one who’s been tolerating this relationship.”
I clenched my fists.
“I’m serious.”
“As you wish.”
He strode out the door without bothering to look back. Sera smiled but quickly hid it.
She turned around gracefully to apologize to me. “I’m so sorry, Princess Rhea. It’s my fault for bringing Anna back and depending on Rook for everything. I’ve caused so much trouble between you, but don’t worry.”
“There’s nothing between us. We have an innocent relationship. We’re just good friends…”
Sera might be giving me an apology but her expression said otherwise.
She was flaunting her good fortune.
She even had the gall to promise to buy a new wooden sword as compensation to Ari. Rook had Anna in his arms while calling out with a tenderness that I had never seen in him before.
“Let’s go, Sera.”
“Coming!” Sera ran after him like a little butterfly.
She said coquettishly, “You have to show more patience to Princess Rhea, Rook. She just wants you to cajole her. She’s not serious about leaving you.”
“I know that, which makes it more important that I shouldn’t let her get her way. She needs to reflect on her behavior. When she trapped me back then by forcing me to marry her with dirty tricks, she should have expected such a day to come.”
They leaned against each other intimately. That wonderful sight stuck out like a sore thumb to me. I lowered my head bitterly.
When I was young, I always thought that my sacrifice would pay off. I even went as far as using half of my life to get what I wanted.
In the end, all I got in return was hurt and pain.
When Rook left for three years, I had waited for him with hope, but they had now all turned to despair.
I wanted to take Ari away with me and leave Rook. That night, Rook did not return even after Ari fell asleep.
Ari had quietly hidden a picture of Rook under his covers while mumbling in a small voice.
“You made me mad today, Daddy. You’re a bad person! But I’ll forgive you if you take me horseback riding tomorrow.”
“Goodnight, Daddy…”
The next morning, the steward delivered an exquisite gift box to me. He told me that it was jewelry from Rook.
I opened the box questioningly and saw a set of jewelry made out of Wolf’s Eye Stone. Moon Shadow Pack’s royal insignia was carved under it.
Only a Luna had the right to wear the insignia. However, Rook had never given me such a present.
There was a golden card next to the jewelry with some words.
It read, “Dedicated to my beloved Sera, From your always loyal Rook.”
There was even a rudimentary hand-drawn picture of them holding hands with Anna.
