After Sending Me to a Mental Hospital, They Regretted it - Chapter 5
In an instant, Evelyn’s piercing scream rang out. She rushed in immediately, clutching Julia’s disfigured body. Desperate, she cried uncontrollably, nearly collapsing.
“Julia! Who did this?”
Julia’s body was not only drenched in gasoline but her skin had been slashed by James, some wounds so deep the bone was visible. Her limbs were twisted at odd angles. The sight left everyone in the room pale and horrified, too scared to move closer.
By the time they entered, I had already helped James escape through another route, one without cameras. Once I learned Julia was Antonio’s daughter, I couldn’t let him get caught. I had a new plan for revenge.
After sending James off, I went back the same way. They were still gathered in the utility room. Evelyn carefully cleaned the stains from Julia’s body. When her gaze fell on Julia’s wrist, she suddenly screamed.
“Antonio, Julia’s gemstone bracelet is gone! It must’ve been Miria! She killed our daughter!”
Evelyn nearly fainted in his arms, gritting her teeth, her eyes filled with a hatred so fierce it felt like fire. Antonio’s face darkened, and a coldness filled his eyes.
He immediately started reviewing all the security footage, zooming in on James‘ face. Evelyn stared at the screen, unblinking.
Suddenly, she screamed and staggered back, her face filled with terror.
“Ah, Antonio, it’s him! He’s come for revenge! ”
“Hurry, call the police and arrest him!”
Hearing her want to call the police on James made me feel uneasy. I rushed in and snatched Antonio’s phone away.
“Antonio, when Amy died, why didn’t you call the police? Now that Julia’s body is found, do you want to report it? Who are you trying to arrest?”
“You’ve been so concerned about Evelyn and Julia, sticking to them all the time. Who are you to them? Could Julia be your daughter?”
I cornered him, my emotions running high. Antonio was caught off guard by my sudden questioning, his composure faltering. Fuming with anger, he pushed me aside but refused to meet my eyes.
“You’re talking nonsense, you crazy woman!”
My interruption made him abandon the idea of calling the police. Instead, he focused on handling Julia’s affairs. Evelyn was seething with rage but dared not confront me. She didn’t dare do anything, but her hateful glances were constantly directed at me as if plotting something.
After dealing with the immediate matters, Antonio didn’t rush to comfort Evelyn. Instead, he took me back to his home. He packed up everything belonging to Julia and placed it in boxes.
“Miria, I’ve thought it over. I should’ve paid more attention to you, but I neglected you. Don’t worry, I’ll spend more time with you from now on.”
Antonio seemed like a completely different person. He brought all his work home, never leaving my side as if watching me closely. But I knew this wasn’t out of remorse. He had some hidden agenda, keeping me under surveillance.
Because the way he looked at me had lost its usual tenderness. With him constantly around, I had no chance to contact James and move forward with my next plan. Finally, I found an opportunity while Antonio was in his study, holding a remote meeting. I slipped out onto the balcony and called James.
But the phone rang several times, and he didn’t answer. A strange unease crept over me. I realized something must have happened to him.
Taking advantage of my trip to buy groceries, I hailed a cab to his hideout. I arrived just in time to see him being escorted out of a dark basement by the police.
People around stopped to watch and discussed.
“I heard he’s mentally ill, stealing corpses.”
“I even heard the corpse he stole was his own daughter. How could a father be so cruel?”
The voices were loud and chaotic, echoing in my ears. I knew everything was over. James had been arrested, and it was very likely he would turn me in. Cold sweat rolled down my forehead as I quickly turned to leave.
Antonio stood just a few steps away, a dark look on his face.
“Miria, what are you doing here? Do you know him?”
