Chapter 14

I watch the news, and I see a hospital. Someone was arrested. I start breathing fast.

“Ashley, take a deep breath, you’re safe!”

I can’t breathe. When Chad gets to me, I’m not awake. He must have been here for a while.

He helps me drink water.

I thank him.

He gets me an apple. I wonder why he’s here. He starts speaking.

“Ashley, I know what happened to you!”

“We all feel terrible.”

Chad’s eyes are tearing up.

“I’m the worst brother ever.”

I shake my head.

“It’s okay.”

Chad’s phone rings.

“I’ll see you later.”

I nod, looking at the number on his phone.
